Hate to say it bud, but Lund might be running your car way hot to drop the #s or just tweaking the dyno so it reads lower before 'their' mods.

The car should not run that low even on a hot engine. You should easily be in the low 320rwhp range.

Also, dyno graphs that show an air/fuel mixture are easier to read, since your car may be running super lean or rich and you may not know it, which kills the power in a race format. Could be any number of things, but those #s are way low in my opinion.

That graph I ran was at 515 miles on 93 octane pump gas.

Cal--Thanks for the input.

I am positive Lund didn't touch the car yet. I am having them do some work later. I also do know the guy that is doing the work and I am sure he is not lower the numbers to get "better" mod performance. The hotter numbers could be from the fact that I am in phoenix and the weather is a bit warm here. :)

This is stock and unaltered Dyno run. The reason it says Lund in the graph is because they paid for the run at Dynocomp. They wanted stock numbers so they can compare when they do the other modifications.

The tuners at Dynocomp also said that most (90%) of the cars tested lose about 27% in the drive train. If you are losing 80 horse that is Great. The 312 I put up still looks great compared to the numbers they expected.

I welcome others inputs on this. But I was there (I got the video if anyone is interested) and I say the whole thing.

No argument there, I am glad you are happy with the #s. I agree that dynos are a really inaccurated and generally flawed way to get a true horsepower estimate out of your car, but hey.

I was standing there when they pulled mine as well, at a LS1/6 tuner shop. I was there the other day and my partner's Z06 pulled 365 or so with a hot engine (he has around $4k in upgrades, full exhaust + headers + intake + dyno tune) so you have to figure he's around 375 all told. I haven't done a pull with the intake yet, just that one pull originally.

Due to corrections in dynos I believe they run 8-10hp lower due to compensation for gears or some such. The guy at Cartek said an aluminum flywheel would get you 10hp on the dyno easy. So it's just a number.

Seems strange that you pulled 20 less than me though, I am scratching my head on that one. Graph looks pretty smooth though.

How many miles on the V? Also, what upgrades do you plan on doing? Lund has a lot of stuff on their site, but maybe you can confirm what they actually HAVE in stock in the shop.

Thanks for the info.

different dyno, different location, different temp...
I've read an article on dyno # somewhere and it's pretty interesting

Cal - 1900 miles on my V. I am out of town during the week for work. So every weekend is a killer homecoming.

As for the mods, starting from the front, different grill (I am doing something different with mine and will show pics AFTER I do it), airbox (got to let her breath), ECM (get rid of CAGS, and power upgrades, etc), Headers, Exhaust, Diff shocks (cures wheel hop), and wheels. Lund has most (Yes I said most) of them and is working on the rest to get them stocked and sold ASAP (obviously). As soon as I have real world numbers and dyno runs I will post.

I did want to mention one thing about Lund. I don't work for them, I have a friend there and that is it. I read some other posts where Jay (my friend) got flamed pretty bad, I can say that he is a genuine guy (capable and honest) and it not out to build hype and then not deliver. I think his early attempts to show the group his desire to build performance parts and his online etiquette collided thus upsetting a few people.

Rabid - Yes, cooling fan was setup. See pic.

I am interested in the headers you speak of, I will call Lund and find out more myself, I know Mallett has a set that is around $1k plus $500 installation, or something along those lines. It's on their site.

Keep us posted for sure!

Edit: am I the only one who can't get through to either of the toll free #s on Lund's website?

so where is the cold air getting pulled from? Aren't most dynos facing outside to get more air sucked in from opening?

There are fans in front of the car, were using the ambient temp (temp monitor located in the dyno room, not in the airbox). I am at the limits of my knowledge on this but I can ask for a more accurate answer if you would like. I also understand there are several ways to do this (air box vs. the room) for temp monitor and it is my understanding the air box way can “show” larger dyno runs, but the real world numbers will be less. If anyone has a very accurate answer on this please post.

Cal - The headers are: 2 inch 304 stainless with a 2.5 inch merge collector outlet, .065 inch wall, all tubes are tig welded and purged. They will be offered in two diff ways polished or ceramic coated. I was told they will come with cats. I have seen the proto-type but Jay didn't want to post any pictures because of the past flames about other proto-type posting. I do not have any pricing info yet. When I get price and availability I will notify ASAP. One other note the install is not easy (per Jay)

One other note on the wheel hop issue. The shocks are a threaded body shock with a coil over.

Any idea when the schedule for install of the above will take place? I am extremely curious about the suspension / shock mods... It seems that almost everyone on the board would like a tangible alternative to leaving the car stock. There have been many threads that elude to such a set-up, but none that have been definitive. :banghead: As far as I have read, no one on the board is driving a V that has been modified to the point where wheel hop has been cured. If it would be at all possible for your friend to hook you up with the suspension mods first, I believe that everyone on the board would be grateful for the first: definitive course of action, definitive pricing, definitive effect that these straight line mods would have on the car's ride and handling in the twisties.:worship:

CaddyGeek - I'll try and get the shocks on ASAP as well as good numbers on the dollar amount, install effort, etc.

In the interest of fairness and openness to the board, can someone that is not me or an employee from Lund recommend a method of testing the wheel hop that is post-able and not my opinion? I can take digital video if needed (this is not small on file size, so I would need some help for the moderators or board admins).

If you have any other suggestions on the testing, and proof of work, please post with them. I will be as honest as I can with the level of knowledge I have (read I am not a car geek, I’m a DgtalPimp).

Cheers

I would do video HOWEVER, remember that the key here is to show you reduced the wheel hop with your parts.. So, NO different wheels, no different tires, no wet road....

Show the RPM (by sound if necessary) so we can see how high the rev is and do multiple runs (side step, high rev, and lay a patch)....

If you want, I can post the video on the FAQ (I will resize to fit space requirements if that is OK)... e-mail me if interested.

I can send video where ever you want it. I will take many video streams and send the raw data to who ever. Splicing and editing I assume would be done prior to making the video ready for the board. I only ask that I get the credit I deserve and the edits are done for size and bandwidth purposes.

I will show runs done without the parts first (If I can), and the same runs done with the parts. The only reason I say without if I can is because the car may get altered this week while I am out of town. If so I will still drive it the same to so wheel hop differences

Night video may not show as well on video (I am not running a movie house). I can try early before the streets heat up to much.

Dgtal, if you have the time... video or pics of a patch would be great. However, I don't think they are necessary when giving your observations to the board. No matter what evidence you give some people will believe you and other's won't. I'm just interested to learn what was done to the car and the net result: Did the rear still jump up and down / shake your fillings or not?

It is doubtful that everyone on the board can send their car to Lund... so just knowing what they did, what was changed, etc would be a step forward. I'm sure there are over a dozen members who'd love to do some tweeking (either now or in the future) in the persuit of less than 5 sec to 60 and a sub 13 sec 1/4 mile.

Caddygeek - thanks for the feedback. I don't think or expect any board members to send their car to Lund. I think if someone is interested they would be able to talk to Lund and get the same parts, or similar parts via a different channel. I will send all the info I have to the board and my opinion of the work done, level of effort, and any pricing numbers I can pass along. Thanks again for the posting.
