Unless you have a bose system already not all the functions will work. If you have an early '03 you will have a pewter dash, im afraid the dvd navs are black. If you want one that will match your dash look for the CD based nav.

Keep an eye on ebay, used dvd nav's usually go for around $1,000. Otherwise try your local salvage yard.

I've noticed that most of the nav units on eBay do not come with the nav DVD. Since they seem to get lost or damaged quite frequently, is it possible to make backup copies of the DVD?

Yes, with a DVD9 capable burner you can make a backup copy of the Nav DVD.

If you can grab one of these, and manage to put it in, will it void your factory warranty. I'm have a similar CTS, 2003 w/ GM's certified warranty for 6/100K.

I was thinking about doing this, but don't want to run the risk of a dealer refusing to fix something, b/c I did this.

I have on 03 that I put nav in. It has NOT voided the warranty!! I have had the dealer do numerous things to the car, after I installed the nav, and even showed them my stereo install, and I am still covered under the warranty. You shouldnt have a problem with it. Its a very easy install too! I didnt do the second part of it for voice recognition though because my dad had it and it was very annoying and was turned off anyway!! Just make sure you get a great price. Mine didnt come with a dvd map, but I just happened to testdrive an Inifinty that had one in it and it somehow made a copy of itself and poof I had a dvd map:shhh:
