Having a drivetrain problem. I get a loud clunking noise from the drivetrain when I start and stop. I've brought it in twice. Now they say they can't fix it and I have to live with it. Anyone else having a problem like that?
Did the dealership even explain what the problem is? Warranty won't cover that???SteverinoB said:Having a drivetrain problem. I get a loud clunking noise from the drivetrain when I start and stop. Thanks for the info DAMien. I'll check with the dealer and see if we can this resolved.Damien_1F9STS said:Hey Steverino, I as well had similar conditions on my 02' Escalade. It only has 43000km or 26000 mile's on it. The Dealership checked on several occasions and could not distinguish the problem. After a few months, just last week the Coupler on the front differential blew, spewing differential gold all over my driveway and driver side front rim. Had it towed in and low and behold...I was advised a new front differential was needed. I guess now we know where the problem was and where it was eventually going to lead.
I am not sure if this helps but something to consider having your Local Dealer look at.
Good Luck Steverino

I have the exact same problem in my ext. It only happens once every couple of months with me. The dealer told me that its the awd system in the escalade and thats the same reason when i change gear into reverse i hear a huge clunk noise (really annoying in underground parking).Machine said:Hi –
I sometimes had this problem, too. What I discovered from other websites is that the transmission sometimes neglects to downshift once you come to a stop. You hit the gas and CLUNK - the trans sences the sudden need to accelerate and finally drops the gearing into first gear, making the clunk and jolt. Now that I’m aware of this, I take my foot slightly off the brakes while at a stop – If the SUV rolls, you know it has engaged first gear. It’s a poor fix to the problem but Cadillac still says that they don’t know what the issue is because they could never duplicate it when I took it in.
Hope this helps.
I get it all the time when both the car is one and off. I also get a huge clunk when putting it into reverse and park but GM blamed that on their awd system.SteverinoB said:Having a drivetrain problem. I get the same noise in reverse, and the dealer assured me its nothing more than the shift linkage moving.fast66 said:I get it all the time when both the car is one and off. I also get a huge clunk when putting it into reverse and park but GM blamed that on their awd system.
