Guys,

I've been head down for a long while on work stuff. Anyway, my car now has 126k miles on it, and the driveline clunk is just out of hand, so it's about time for a refresh.

I plan to swap out my engine mounts (if you recall I had the original UUC prototype mounts), which are shot.

I'm also going to finally swap out my clutch/flywheel. The clutch is still fine, but the flywheel has seen better days. I'm very impressed with the OEM clutch. I've been HP modded since day one, and damn did that sucker last. I plan to stay OEM for the clutch, so I'm eyeballing the Katech LS9 twin disk.

That leads me to the driveshaft. It' original, and is beyond tired. I did some searching and didn't really find a sliver bullet for OEM driveshaft replacement. There appears to be one that can be made over at hub gagrage, and it looks like GeForce might have one (sent Chris an e-mail on this). Are there any other options that are ready to go right now? I'd like to get this done soon. I saw some threads on a carbon 1 piece, but no updates on it for months. I would be willing the spend the cash, but I want to get this done soon, and don;t want to wait for vaporware.

Show an oldtimer some love, and get me back up to speed on the state of our driveshaft options.

Chris those are the only two I've seen other than OEM. I know some have had custom units made at local shops, including a one piece I was checking out on here a while back that reportedly worked fine without adding vibration.

Go for the Geforce option Chris. Good price, and very sturdy. That's the one I'll be getting when I replace my clunk infested DS.

In an effort to reduce the clunk, I'd change out your diff bushing also. Either go with UUC (if Luke still has an) or the Creative Steel ones.

I already have the UUC diff and tranny mounts.

Waiting on an e-mail from Chris @ Geforce.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the LS9X clutch. I got their remote bleeder as well (we'll see if it works). I ordered up a replacement slave from Luke @ Lindsay as well (when I pick up the replacement UUC motor mounts.)

Has anyone installed the Geforce DS to anyones knowledge yet?

I agree on the OEM clutch. Can't find a darn thing wrong with mine at 54k miles, 18k of it maggied.

I drove ronr's car with Katech's LS9 clutch kit, and it was indeed smoo-o-o-th ... could not for the life of me generate a clunk at parking lot speeds, so I bought one. It's not in yet, though.

Chris, if after installing the LS9 kit I don't eliminate the parade clunk, I'll be watching you very closely on this DS venture of yours. I know you'll study it hard, commit to something, and give sober reviews after the install.

Not to derail the thread here...but what are some of the advantages to the LS9 clutch vs the LS7 for our cars?

My clutch is in the same boat...functions fine, just clunky as hell.

LS7 is a single disk. LS9 is a twin disk. The disks on the LS9 are smaller in diameter, which means less inertia robbing power required to spin up and down. Plus with the twin disk design, you can have the same ammount of clamping force, but the overal clutch action (power required to push in the pedal) would be less than a similarly rated single disk. Lastly 9 is larger number, so it must be better ;)

looks like it will work with the OEM diff

very sexy
I called Chris @ Gforce, and he will have to have the DS made. I'm taking my car in on Friday, so I will forgo the DS for now. If it's still an issue (which I think it is), I will order one up, and then have it installed later.

Understood...what kind of price point are they vs the LS7?
No clue what the LS7 costs. LS9X was about $1400 for the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, bolts, and remote bleed. I ordered a new slave while I was at it that was about $300 extra (from Luke).

It's only money :D

I've heard good things about going light with the FW/Clutch combo, so I expect I'm going to get a nice perormance bump in the lower gears, plus maintain a nice clutch action. I already heel-toe like a madman, so I expect I'll have to relearn that, now that it's going to rev faster.

Wow...I think the LS7 is more around $650 out the door plus install.

My mostly stock ride will probably go that direction :)

Thanks for the info, that clutch sounds vary niiice!
Does that inlcude the flywheel, or just the clutch?

Chris,

Where are you getting the LS9X from ? Will a stock V slave fit in this setup?
It's from Katech (assume they are still a sponsor, mods pull out link if not):
http://store.katechengines.com/ls9x-clutch-for-cadillac-cts-v-p247.aspx

Clutch, flywheel, pressure plates & mounting hardware: $1299. remote bleeder was $130 (I think). Got a new stock slave from Luke at Lindasy for about $300 (might as well do it while you are in there.)

I talked with Jason, and he said 100% sure it will work with the stock slave. He wasn't completely sure about the remove bleeder (it's for a vette), but I figured while I had it apart, I'd see if I could get it to fit. I'll let everyone know how it works out.

Herte is some clutch pron:

Thanks,

Who's doing the install ?
My mechanic. He's a guy I've known a long time. More of a break-fix type, who runs a small automotive place. He used to be big time into dirt track racing, so he knows his stugg, and understands what I need to get my car ready for the track. Also he's a very detail oriented guy (like me) and runs the place with his wife, so they are pleasure to work with.

Ron Ellis, RPM Automotive in Hanover, Md. 410 859-1766.

You guys missed this thread? http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/2004-2007-cadillac-cts-v-performance/216680-katech-ls9-clutch-first-impression.html

I've been having dirty thoughts of this setup since Ron posted it up....

My bad, I haven't been very observant :)
Not chastising just informing :) Be-careful though a thorough read from start to finish is said to cause the reader to impulsively whip out his cc and navigate to Katech's site.....
