Drive Shaft Carrier Bearing Replacement - 06 CTS with 3.6L

I know I saw it here before but I can't seem to use the right key words in the search... I have an '03 CTS with 140K miles, and I poked my head under my car today and notice my drive shaft center support bearing is shot. There's no more rubber left, and i've been getting some nasty downshift clunking. The rear diff bushing appears to be solid, but this drive shaft center bearing is pretty much gone.

Is there a GM fix, or any other fix, for this without having to replace the whole driveshaft?

It is possible to get the u-joint replaced by a good drive line shop. I had mine replaced about a year ago. I needed a new carrier bearing, and it turned out that the u-joint was bad. They replaced the joint, carrier bearing and mount, and balanced the shaft for about $220? I had already replace my flex discs with the original German made discs, so I did not have to replace them. I had prior issues with the Dorman discs, but it may have been due to the u-joint/carrier bearing issue. The German made discs seemed like they had better reinforcement around the bolt holes than the Dorman units, but they are about 100 instead of the 65 for the Dorman units. I believe the German units are what GM is selling now.
You will also want to check the pilot bushings on each end of the shaft. They also probably contributed to the short life of the Dorman discs as well.

Assuming the vibration is coming from the union between the shaft and differential, you could disconnect it and rotate the unit one bolt CW or CCW (and take notes on which way you moved, marking the new config with a paint pen). Then retest. If the vibration is gone you are finished. If not, repeat (and mark the new location each time) until it goes away. The repeated markings will tell you which orientations you already tested, in case something disrupts you and you forget (been there!)
