Does Anyone Know The Advantages Of The Double Belt System Over The Single Belt? 1970 Cad Cdv 472ci. I Want To Go Single For Hei Distributor. Why Did Cadillac Do That?

they went from 2 belt to 1 belt when they went to HEI... So if you were going with a stock HEI , so the belt don't rub, it's eazyist to get the pullies off the crank and water pump off a 425... and that way if you have a air pump, you can take it off...

My guess would be that dual belts transfer more power with less bearing load on the crank and accessories. Dual belts require matched belts to work properly and aren't seen too much anymore. I'd double check anything that is supposed to be matched. The single belt system works just fine but IIRC would require changing all the pulleys not just the crank pulley. Groove sizes are probably different.
