I know they have a kit all 4 $90. They pop out but be very careful u don't yank the wiring with it. On the sides of the steering wheel there's 2 holes push them in with a awl tool pull the airbag out rest it ontop but do not unplug it. Then you can see what's going on in there. Wires are thin just be careful when you pop it out its relatively easy if you're careful and patient. If you pull a wire it's not the end of the world it should pop right back in but use some hot glue and/or silicone

Make sure you disconnect battery for about an hour before you mess with airbag

Only thing you have to worry about when working with air bags is static discharge from yourself(not the truck)

The system will only deploy them if needed and that's only if it detects speed above a certain threshold
Otherwise your good
I say this because it was told to me by a gm service manager and a gm tech
