The drivers (RHD car) side door mirror glass has been replaced at some point in the past by a standard piece of glass.
I'd like to replace it with the correct glass.

The backing plate (that clips onto the mechanism inside the mirror housing) is there, but someone has glued a non standard mirror glass to it.

So it doesn't dim and also, although I can hear the motor whirring, the electric adjustment does nothing. The centre of the mirror is pressed in correctly to the little cup, but there is nowhere to plug in the 3 sets of wires (I'm assuming they normally go into the glass as there is nthing on the glass backing plate?).

Anyone know if you can buy the glass seperately?

And if I pull the glass off what should I see moving when I use the adjusment switch?
Yes, you can buy replacement mirror (glass portion only) They once came with the plastic attachment already fixed to the glass so all you had to do was snap it into place, (easier said than done mind you)

From what I understand now, you must attach the plastic portion on to the rear of the glass, wait for it to cure, then attach the new glass.

The last time I did it myself I had the glass with the plastic already attached. I used masking tape to cover the mirror and pressed only at the attachment points of the glass, not the edges. It took me a few attempts to get it to snap into place, but it did and worked just fine.

Quick question about the side mirror, i purchased a replacement for my passenger side. On the pivot in the center of the mirror, is there supposed to be a rubber or something that holds it together? The one on my car just doesn't want to stay attached at the pivot point. I don't want to apply to much force in pushing them together if its not going to help. I don't want to break it.

On mie, on teh back of the mirror, either side of the pivot point, were 2 little plastic bars. These clipped into the mirror housing either side of the pivot point (maybe 1cm from the pivot point)

You have to press it real hard (make sure the bars are lined up with the "hooks/slots"(?))
