Door handle broke or just loose?

Just noticed my back passenger door handle pulling out. I figured it was broken but now I'm thinking it may just be loose.

Anyone have this issue?

I have replaced all 4 of mine in less than 2 years.
I have a spare on-hand now because the last time I thought I broke it, it was actually the yellow clip inside the the door that holds the locking bolt had opened.
An easy close to put the bolt back in and clamp it shut.
But you will for sure break these cheap plastic handles....eventually.

Glue didn't work. The housing around the insert was broken out.

I'm getting faster at changing these handles out. Did both rear doors in an hour. I don't even disconnect the electric or the inside clip attached to the rod. I just set the door panel inside behind the front seat and I unhook the inside rod from the door handle itself once I have it unscrewed and hook on the new one.

Advice: Buy the OEM for $100+ not the cheap amazon ones for $18 if you care about the quality. The cheap ones sound and feel cheap eveytime you open the door.

Revisited. I’m about to replace my 4th door handle with OEM on my 2014 ESV.

Is there anything I can do with this new door handle to make it stronger?

I rarely valet but had to a few weeks ago and I think they broke my drivers side door handle. I believe they think it a newer vehicle that unlocks when you get near it with the key fob so they just jerk on the locked door handle [emoji2959]

I had my 09 for almost three years and had no issues. After I had what’s called “(door) checking” occur where punks pull the door handles to see if the doors are unlocked, mine started to come apart like that.

The ahh Ha moment was, unfortunately, my truck was looted and the front p/s door handle was toasted. There were other issues related to the door lock solenoids like they were permanently defeated so the truck was kept from locking with the remote.

Fortunately I turned it in to my insurance as my deductible was low. Three of the four handles were damaged along with the actuators / solenoids. With dealer OEM parts and labor it was over $2.5k because they stole a spare key & remote stashed in the console. It needed a total rekey and three doors plus the glove box and spare tire cylinder.

Gruven parts makes a repair kit for the handles but I wouldn’t repair the knock off ones. The chrome eventually peels off like as sharp as a razor. Your truck may be getting checked and purposely trying to damage the handles to gain long term access to the inside. I lost about a grand worth of stuff that wasn’t covered when they got me. A tech 2, Gates HD acess belt kit, DVD headphones, jumper cables, etc.

Drop a handful of pistachio shells on the ground by the doors. You’ll hear them crunching on your street or driveway and it’ll let them know you may be close by.

Sorry to hear you’re dealing with neighborhood punks with no purpose in life.

I tried the aftermarket doorhandles and they just feel like crap when you’re opening the doors so I stick with the OEM.

I’m fortunate enough to have a garage I keep my vehicles in but I sold a mint condition Range Rover sport to a friend that got stolen outside of his house month later in Boca and crashed into another home that night.
We need to build more prisons and hire more cops.

I could change these door handles out in probably 15 minutes flat if it wasn’t for always having one of those doorhandle bolts falling inside the door or plastic molding on the door cover and having to figure out a way to fish it out.

So accurate - happens to me every time I take a door panel off!

I use a magnetic retriever or the crevice attachment on the vacuum with a flexible plastic or soft copper tube duct taped on. If it doesn’t suck it up in the clean bag, it really holds onto lost parts with the increased vacuum.

I just lost a star shaped securing nut that holds the taillights onto my wife’s 07 Beetle. It attaches inside a secret panel of the minuscule trunk that falls into a deep valley of welded together body panels. The nuts are no longer made.

This time I threw in the towel and ordered one off eBay for $9. I’ll fish it out later.
