Here is a brighter picture of the first intake manifold. It looks like an EGR passage to me too :hmm:

Then what may I ask is the hole above the intake inlet? It doesn't look like a thermostat port or anything...

Edit: you might be right in that it is not an EGR port, because the EGR ports that I've seen have a much smaller hole than that one, and are usually circular...

You're not seeing things, it looks like an EGR to me too, but in the provided picture (below), the EGR port shows two ports, one is small and the other, also small, is circular. The picture that Terrible One provided has a squared look to it and is quite large. But in conradiction to my previous statement, I am still going with that it's an EGR port...

Well, here is the aforementioned picture of the intake manifold that I put on my '87 Seville. The EGR port and water ports are outlined so-to-speak...:D

That isn't an EGR port, it's the heated choke port, which is why it is located on top of the exhaust crossover passage.
Beat me to it. That's for the choke mechanism - I had forgotten how primitive early fuel management was.

Here's mine. One with the 'doghouse' installed, another without it. I've got a crazy looking plate that redistributes the air to eliminate inefficiencies caused by the factory arrangement.

What year is it off of? That will easily clear things up. It does look like an egr port, but I'm not sure if Cad used different locations for the valve. Here's a picture of two intakes just for some reference; one clearly egr, and one non-egr:
