Do I need to get my ECM updated / programmed by the dealer?

Hi, I would like to know if I should get my 02 ECM updated or re-programmed by the dealer? If so, how much does it cost to do it approximately? Are there any programmers I can buy and do it myself?

Kinda curious about same thing! Like to get this checked also! Have a prob with driveline slop that I heard was taken care of in previous thread by ecm update! Just wonderin what I can expect to pay?
