I bought a 2000 Seville and did a HG replacement. Once it was all back together and good to go I made sure to add 5 gal of premium to the tank so I knew it had fresh gas. (the gauge was low/empty when I bought the car and wasn't sure how long it had sat...) I was taking it for a drive (bout 5miles round trip) and as I was coming back to the shop it suddenly died on the driveway of the shop.
It suddenly said "fuel level low" on the display and the gas gauge said empty. I knew it had gas but just to be sure I got another 5gal of prem and put it in. When I turned the key on again it said it had a half tank. So i started it and drove back into the shop.
I couldn't get it to do this in the shop again so I figured i would take it on the road again and see what happened. I got bout 1 mile away and it did the same thing again, and when I went to start it the starter would not engage.
I tried tapping on the tank to see if it was a loose wire or something and it started again and I started back to the shop, but it took 5 starts to get back to the shop.
I have opened the access panel in the trunk and disconnected/cleaned/reconnected all the connectors on top of the fuel tank and it is still doing the same thing.
I'm not sure where to start with this one, it is still intermittent....
I know that there are 2 different level sensors in the tank, plus the pump. I didn't see in the manual what the fuel pressure should be but I really don't think that the pump is the problem here because when ever it thinks it has gas the pump runs. I think I have boiled it down to a sensor.
Is the car programmed to not run the starter when there is no gas so that you don't hurt the starter?
Sorry I know its a lot of info and a small book Any help would be appreciated.
Let me know if you need some other info to help with this and I will try and get the info posted.
