Acura is currently running a TV ad where they claim they are the only luxury brand with 5 star crash tests ratings on every car they make. They flash trough all the German and Japanese brand marques but no Cadillac!

Do they not consider Cadillac a luxury brand or, more likely, does including Cadillac actually make their statement a lie?

Sounds like their car is a winner for those who crash cars. Congratulations Acura. :shifty

It may just be me, but I'm more impressed with how a car looks, feels, and drives than how it runs into things.

I don't want to say the TL won't grow on me, or some people, but when I test drove it, especially with the standard rims, I couldn't get past the looks--side view and front view. The back view I actually liked, though.

I test drove the Acuras also and I must say they are quick, agile, and excellent performers BUT like most others here I can't past the looks of the car. They are just too beastly and 'transformer' like for my tastes.

On the safety note, I can't stand these so called crash test commercials that appeal to those that don't know how to drive to begin with.
It continuosly amazes me that the same group of people, primarily the left-wing eco-idiots, are the same groups that hype all this safety and yet they keep pushing hard for smaller lighter death traps like the SmartCar, etc.
I would love to see what remains of one of those little beasties after being t-boned by any 'normal' sized auto. :thepan:

Same here. Makes it all the more understandable why Acura's print ads tend to feature a rear shot - a tad unusual when a manufacturer is introducing a new car. :bonkers:

Regarding crash tests, it's true...the socialist National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awards higher ratings to Acura RL, TL, and TSX models than to the Cadillac CTS...but the capitalist Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awards its highest rating ("GOOD") to both the 2009 Cadillac CTS and the Acura models.

The important question is...who cares? No self-respecting car guy has ever bought an Acuta, except for the much-hyped but ultimately fangless NSX. Acuras are for women and guys who think "FWD performance" is a real concept.

wow, amazing how much sexism, conservatism, and nationalism comes out of this board . . . just a gay liberal here trying to learn more about his CTS . . . and yes I do hope caddys become more ecologically friendly in the future . . . I want to depend as little on those people I least respect.

Reading diverse viewpoints is the great thing about an international message board; it's when those viewpoints might shut down contributions from certain people that it becomes an issue. What the heck is an eco-idiot anyways . . . people who are stupid for wanting to make sure we have a healthy place for kids and grand kids to live? . . . and I do like the 3rd generation Prius, but not my thing, and certainly not in powder blue :highfive:

The process of mining the ore, sending it by rail to Canada to be refined, then shipped by boat to Japan to be made into batteries, then back to America to be assembled into a Prius does more harm to the environment than a 4x4 Yukon Denali with the catalytic converter sawed off. Hybrids are a great way to get better mileage (if you drive like you're afraid of breaking the gas pedal) and feeling good about yourself- they accomplish nothing as far as "saving the planet".
