Gang, both sides decided to die yesterday.
Considering the new design vs gutting/leaving current headers in.

Those of you who gutted the cats:
1. How bad is the smell?
2. Is there a smell at all? Sitting in traffic? Bueller?
3. You notice any change in how she drives?
4. Keeping it that way?

THANKS!

Wow...the person with all the answers,..doesn't know the answer?...

.......yes,...your car will smell. If your car runs semi rich,..it will smell worse.

It isn't bad at all when moving,..not at all. When stopped, or in a drive thru,...you might kill the people in line behind you but,..no biggie.

I would leave the cats gutted but,..would HIGHLY recommend a RE-TUNE from your favorite tuner.

How bad is the smell?....again, depends on the setup,..if your car is pig rich,..it's gonna smell like RAW FUEL.... If your standing behind your car,...maybe putting something in the trunk,....and the car is running,...it will saturate your clothes a little bit,..and the smell will follow you into the car.

My car has no cats,,....doesn't bother me a bit but,...it does at times smell.

...and your still gonna have to finish the job so to speak. YOu can't just leave the small blown through holes in the cats,...unless they blew completely out....then you would be ok, save for a couple of jagged edges.

signed,

your hero.
lol, thanks man
i don't really have very many answers at all, i'm just a pr1ck :D

I gutted mine almost a week ago after the drivers side blew about a 1-1/2" hole in itself. For the first few days in ran really strong and the exhaust tips were showing a little whiteish haze. I think it was running a little on the lean side.

After a few days I threw the expected CEL, it started running a little more sluggish and the exhaust smell got pretty bad. Yesterday I went back to MTI and had them delete the rear 02 sensor from the tune and clear the CEl. It seems to be running better now and the exhaust smell isn't nearly as bad.

Another thing I noticed is that I'm getting better gas mileage now sans cats according to the avg mpg showing on the display. I haven't reset the mpg avg since I bought the car and in the last week I've gone from 14.1 to 15.7
