Took my truck to Karp Gmc located in Rockville Center,Ny $250 later was told I need a new transmission to the tune of $4000 Lucky for me I decided to get a second opinion.Took the truck to a local independent shop, was told all I needed was a body control module for $180 for the part $150 to install and program.Truck now operates normally again.
Bottom line don't trust the dealer to get it right always get that second opinion - Avoid the RIPOFF GMC DEALERS SUCK!!!!!!

Unfortunately, many current techs have for one reason or another turned into parts replacers in stead of trouble shooters/fixers. The training they receive uses some form of following a diagnostic tree, but too many don't understand what the diagnostics are telling them and just start replacing related parts at your expense. I hate to even think it but there are probably also dealerships that encourage techs to find big ticket fixes. Using the parts replacement method, sooner or later you'll eventually hit of the fix but it could cost the owner thousands of dollars for the tech to finally hit on the right part. In those cases, no one really know what was wrong - they just replaced enough parts to find the bad one.

This is true with affenburg cadillac in Carbondale. My escalade hybrid stalled while I was towing my new MB GLK 350. I had it towed to them and before dropping it off I had dxtic eval from onstar and it showed a fuel pump code. Called the service dept since I wasn't local and the "hybrid" tech said the code he was reading was a 300v hybrid battery fault. I said any other codes? He got several codes and one of them was the fuel pump failed code. The hybrid battery code was a false positive meaning it shows up if you repeatedly crank it until the charge is low. The fix would be to charge it. Argued repeatedly with the rude service dept. with them insisting there is no fix but the battery. Okay, no other choice they ordered and installed it. Guess what? It was the fuel pump all along. I paid for both at $3500. Filed complaint with GM and got the $3000 back;). Hello 2015i platinum!
