dashboard material on '95 sts

I recently bought a 95 sts and I think the dash is vinyl but I'm not sure. I need to know so I can buy the proper cleaner / protectant. Any suggestions on interior care would help too.

Keep it clean and protected. I'm not a big fan of amour all...but I think they've gotten better over the past 20 yrs. That stuff used to crack and ruin your dash pad. I've used NuVynal for years and since I can't get that in Tenn I've switched to Meguires interior protectant which works very well.
Yes, it's vinyl. You really can't "feed" vinyl, just use a mild detergent to keep it clean. You can use a vinyl dressing if you like its appearance. Functionally, it's a zero.

More importantly, there are two issuues you might want to address. The first is discoloration known as "sunfade." The second is warping due to "sunheat." Both are issues with our Cadillacs.

Both can be prevented by using a windshield sunscreen during the summer months. AND, you are not limited to those ugly cardboard accordian style things; there are alternatives.

The defroster vents are known to warp under heavy heat load.

Sweet, a detailing question :bouncy:. What I use on my Caddy and other peoples cars is the following picture. I use it on the dash, doors, just about any surface that's not glass, clear plastics, or leather. It lasts a long time and it protects really good. I havn't had a chance to do the inside of my car for a while, but all I have to do is wipe it down and it looks like I just spent a long time cleaning it . It keeps the colors nice and rich looking. If you have any other questions about detailing, ask away and I'll give you my best opinion.
Hey Maticulous, I have big sun blotches on the dash of my 95 SLS any ideas on how to restore repaint etc. they are really ugly & make the car look like crap. any help appreciated. Thanks.

:hmm:, If there's still paint there, try to do several coats of the stuff that I posted about. I'm surprised that it would be coming off, fading I could seee but coming off, holy crap . See if the stuff helps with the fades but don't do it in the sun. I'll look around the internet to see if I can find anythinf about it, if I find anything,I'll post it for you. If none of this stuff helps and if you're like me and you want your car to look new, the only other thing I would suggest is replacing it. I'll see if I can find anything for you.

WHOA! Maybe replacement is a little extreme. It's surprisingly easy to remove the dash cover. You might then paint it with one of the popular vinyl restoration products.

If a search here doesn't help, let me know and I'll post photos on dash removal.

Mac,

Thanks for the heads up on that Turtle Wax product. I stopped by my local auto parts "supermarket" this AM and it wasn't there. I'll have to keep looking.
