Instrument cluster back lighting is intermittent. Light sensor/controls have no effect; display (speedometer, etc) is dark during the day. Again, problem is intermittent.
Anyone have ideas for troubleshooting?
The backlighting depends on both outside and inside light levels and automatically adjusts itself based on sensors. I would start with the simple stuff:
- make sure the sensor on top of the dash below the windshield is clean and not obstructed by paper or ice/snow on the outside.
- same with areas around the rear view mirror. I am not sure if it carries a related sensor on the back.
- try adjusting the brightness setting and see if the problem still happens.
So - my 06 backlight is controlled by the slide switch over head at the switches for the rear wiper and sun roof. Slid all the way down turns on the dome light slide up controlls the brightness of the backlight . Maybe try sliding the switch back and forth 1/2 doz. times to clean the switch . Note : I think others have had battery drain problems if they stop the slide switch to close to the dome light position .
