I was messing around with the autotrader and just for the heck of it, put in for a 2006 DTS anywhere in the USA.
Up pops this:
Bewley Allen Cadillac Sales in Alhambra California
(near LA) 1k plus miles. sticker price $39,950

Sort of off topic but the future of the hybrid cars doesn't seem very bright. According to the Detroit News this morning, editorial;

"A hybrid shortcircuit

Gasoline-electric hybrid cars get the fuel economy buzz, but they still don't pay for themselves at the pump. Edmunds.com found that the Ford Escape hybrid would break even over five years with its gasoline counterpart only if gas cost $5.60 a gallon. For a Toyota Prius, the tipping point is $10.10 (compared with a Corolla). That's hardly electrifying.":banghead:

At that rate you better drive it into the ground, and then hope insurance pays off :hide:

Hi Mccombie 5,
you might won`t even get 45 K for your VW.
Here in Germany they sold them for 30 - 40 % under MSRP - Brand New ones!!
A Volkswagen with this price tag on will never be a success.

Even if the car is good - the nameplate isn`t for a luxury car.

Its very likely I wouldnt get near that to be honest, thats the book price, but we all know that they arent even meeting that.

Its a fantastic car, but its only a 3.0 V6 Diesel, smallest engine, but 29 mpg!

I won't be selling it anyway, the only reason it cost £72k was that I optioned it up like a W12 model, and we all know options dont return massively, they just make the car easier to sell for little over or the same price. I bought it because tiw as a good car, and I cant complain :D:D:D

It didn't make sense to me either. And the guys that made this decision make millions a year. A 70-80K car with a VW on the trunk won't ever sell.

VW should have done the same as Toyota did with the new Lexus nameplate. Maybe the car should have been a Phaeton and forget the VW part. It looks like a nice car though.

Someone already mentioned the Phaeton, how about the Porsche Cayenne Turbo? Lol :histeric: :histeric: (sorry to the people that did buy one). A guy wanted to trade one in that was a year old, he was offered around $55,000 for it!! $40,000 down the drain in one year :alchi: .

vw does have a luxury name plate, it's called audi. If you look at phaton next to A8 you will see the resemblence.

That is really not much less than sticker for a basic DTS I. I saw a DTS I on the dealers lot today for about that price. It has a few miles because it had been used as an official vehicle at a golf tournament. Still it was being sold as a new vehicle.

you`re wrong concours,
the luxury nameplate from volkswagen is Bentley - it belongs to vw since two years.
you are right, the A8 and phaeton uses the same platform.
To volkswagen belongs: Audi - Skoda - Bentley - Lamborghini.

The Pheaton will not be replaced by a new model - was a flop!!!!

what i meant was that just like acura has a corresponding model in the honda lineup, audi is the same with vw lineup

also bently is too much of an ultra luxury name plate.
