I installed my Hurst shifter from Brian a couple days ago and I can't believe the difference. The throws are short and crisp. It feels very mechanical (in a good way!) now and I never struggle to find a gear. If you guys are on the fence about getting one of these, it's time to hop over to the land of milk and honey.

Between my new mounts (motor & trans) and this shifter...It feels like I'm driving a totally different car. If you have any issues finding 1st and reverse, the mounts, shifter bushings, and Hurst shifter will improve life dramatically.

You definitely should upgrade the shifter bushings at the same time. My rubber bushings were half way extruded out of the retainer and they had definitely taken a set.

Installation was easy. It took me about 3 hours solo with a set of ramps. You might have to be creative to do this without a helper, but wratcheting wrenches and an impact life easy.

Did you have to drop the exhaust and/or driveshaft to get the bolt that requires you get under the car?

Darkman,

I didn't drop either the exhaust (which is stock) or the driveshaft. I'm not saying it was easy. But I'm 6'4", 290 lbs with big fat hands. A 13 mm wratcheting wrench is essential for this in my opinion. The two bolts that replace the rivets were harder for me. I had to tape the retainer and bolts down from the top and then carefully add the washers and nuts from underneath the car. Threaded those nuts up as far as possible by hand and then I hit the bolts with my small electric impact gun (woodworking) from the top and that sucked everything tight. Just make sure the shifter is clocked in the proper direction before putting the pivot bolt back in. I had it 180 degrees out and the hurst handle was curved in the wrong direction and not centered up. Getting back under the car to fix my mistake was no fun!

This is good to know...but I've been really happy with my B&M. Might wait to see Brian at the Dream Cruise and see the shifter in person.

Just installed my Hurst shifter today. It replaced a B&M shifter. I wasn't expecting much of a difference but it was just like coming from the stocker all over again. The throws of this shifter are nice and short. No slop whatsoever. Unfortunately I haven't been able to drive with it yet due to other mods in progress, but from the way it feels while just sitting in the driver's seat, I'm looking forward to that first drive.

^^^ Just replaced a B&M shifter, it wasn't bad, but if you want better and have the coin, this hurst shifter is an improvement that you can feel a difference. The shifter tends to feel just slightly lower than the height of the b&m but its crisp and kinda knotchy, It doesn't take any effort really to shift. It kinda just pops into place, I was second guessing whether or not it even went into gear. It was short enough to feel like I just bumped it out of gear into neutral. I'd recommend it to anyone. it was a very simple install. Took less than an hour. The only thing I'm having trouble with is getting my shifter boot to sit at the bottom of my chrome hurst stalk. And if you wanna switch to the stock look, pop out the center, undo two bolts pop the stock looking one in. Could be done in ten minutes.

I am very pleased with mine as well. I replaced the Katech shifter which uses the stock nylon crap. Now the shifting is very direct and straightforward. Once you get used to the new shortened and direct throw, shifts can become lightening fast! I didnt have take out my exhaust(corsa) or my driveshaft either. I too installed it in backwards and had to climb back under and fix it. I think in the Hurst directions it tells you to put the grooves facing the passenger side. I didnt need to install any of the provided dynamat or rubber shims and its quiter than the Katech was by a mile. All in all a very well made product and couldnt be happier, thanks Brian!

Can someone tell me what the thread is to get the shift knob on the Hurst? I've got this shift knob that I've been running on a modified shortened stock shifter for the last 2 years & would like to keep it (if possible):

I also remember getting some grief from folks for running a knob like this when I first did it. Now everyone's got a white shift knob, eh?

What causes the bezel to degrade like that ?
Mine is just fine, but I've seen others have that issue too. Certain cleaners tear it up or something ?

I guess, I didn't really do much, but mine was already broken when I got it. I have a replacement for it, but I'm not putting it in only to have the tabs broken when I replace the shifter for this! ;)

Speaking of which, if someone is interested in a decent stock shift knob and a brand new stock shift knob. I have them for sale.

So I am finally ready to pull the trigger on one of the modified stock shifters from PISNUOFF, but I have not been on the forum for a bit and this stuff with the HURST shifter is new to me. So we still order the shifters from PISNUOFF but not the come with a HURST base or something? Can someone please let me know what I need to do to send in my order? I couldnt find a thread for ordering them and I am ready to order ASAP. Also looking for a little more information on exactly what all I need as far as bushings and stuff. Would appreciate some more info from anyone or a point in the right direction to another thread that may have all the info I am looking for. Thanks in advance.

Nevermind I found PISNUOFF's thread on these new shifters, I just didnt see it at first. Sorry for the post.

Hey Brian I am ready to order. Anything else I need to do besides PayPal you the money? I currently have a V2 knob on my car so I want to be able to continue to use that with the new shifter. Also I have read some things about people also replacing the "shifter bushings" or something when they do this install, is there anything like that you would reccomend doing along with this install? And is there currently any sort of wait time for the kits? Thanks.

I'm guessing you missed all the fun that went on around here. The nazi-esque moderators permanently banned Brian from these garbage forums. Pretty sure you can still contact him through the email provided in his shifter thread or if you'd like, PM almost anyone on here and we can give you his email so you can ask him questions.

Or you can join the CTS-V vs the World Facebook page. He's there as well as a bunch of other very helpful guys. Check it out.
