I’ve got a 2007 CTS and wanted to see how I’d go about burning CD ROMs for it. I tried with some blank ones I had but they didn’t work, but I wanted to see if maybe I need a specific file format or if I need to use a different type of disc?

I assume you are trying to burn music to disks, to play in the car? They will only work if you create them as music disks that play on any audio system. Your burner software should have this option.

I use the basic CD-R disks.
