CUE system swap

Just wondering if you can swap out the cue system in a newer vehicle for one from an older year. My 2016 ATS Cue system had gone dark and I',m thinking of replacing the whole unit. I found a used on on eBay from a 2013 SRX that from what i can tell should work. I called my Cadillac dealership and was told he didn't think it would because he didn't think it could be programmed to a newer vehicle. Just throwing this out there to see if anyone else has done this and had any issues........doing it this way will save me a ton of money as they quoted me upwards of 2K to install a new unit that they order. I haven't had the chance to try pulling the negative terminal from the battery or messing with the fuses to see if that will fix the issue....so ultimately I'm hoping these will work so i don't have to buy anything...but in the event that they don't I want to see if buying an older model year Cue system will work in my vehicle.

Yes thank you all so for the replies…I ended up buying a screen from Cuescreens and doing the install myself with no issues. What I was saying in my original post is that my screen was going black and wouldn’t turn on until about a week later….at this point I’m thinking that it may be the HMI that will need to be replaced….anyone on here have experience with that ?

If you just replace the screen that Cuescreens.com sends you, no programming is necessary because it's just the plastic touch panel that's being replaced. If you replace the entire HMI unit (including the electronic bits) then yes you need to have it reprogrammed since most GM modules are driven by VIN number associations now.
