CUE software updates- when & how to know?

I get irritated with marketing emails from Cadillac showing things that I'm "missing out on" by not having a data plan. Unlimited Pandora and downloading other apps, for example. However, my 2017 Platinum CUE does not have WiFi or Over The Air update configuration settings also boasted about in these emails.

So how can we determine if a new or updated software version is available for CUE other than a trip to a dealer to have them tell me no?

Wifi unlimited data @ $20/month is available through Onstar. I have the full Onstar plan so what I don't know is if the Wifi package is available as a stand alone package or if one must already have one of the Onstar packages. I enjoy having the unlimited Wifi package especially when we go on vacation. When my wife is driving I enjoy watching a Netflix movie on my iPad :)

Thanks, but I had the OnStar trial WiFi and never used it because my devices are already on nearly unlimited LTE data plans. I meant to say I want to be able to join a WiFi network to add apps or get operating system updates. That control of the CUE WiFi is simply not available in my XT5 and Cadillac sends me sales materials assuming that I do.

That's exactly what does not work. The only WiFi settings are for OnStar, which I could care less about since all of my devices are 4G LTE and on high GB data plans so it's useless for me to have WiFi via OnStar.

However, the ability to get onto a WiFi network, such as my home's, and add Apps from the "Cadillac Collection" would be nice in addition to getting CUE OS updates.

Using Android Auto uses no additional data, but the apps you use such as Google Maps or Waze do use some data, but it's very little. Map data is not like streaming video. It's sent in "code" that the app interprets and converts into the map graphics. My wife and I together share 10GB and we have never come close to running out of data when using apps via Android Auto.

x2 - The data usage for Google Maps or Waze is tiny. But if that is still an issue of concern, you can always save and download a region to your phone.

Download areas and navigate offline - Android - Google Maps Help You can select a very large multi-state region if you want. Best to save to SC card in that case. It will prompt you to update the download every month or so. I think Waze might have something similar - I hear the beta team was working on it a while back, and it might be live now.

Hope this helps.
