I currently lease a 328i and have one more year on the lease. The engine and transmission are rock solid. BUT-big BUT-if you want good seats, good sound, back up camera, etc all of a sudden the price is round 53K. My wife has an XTS and I am impressed with her car.

So I started comparing the pricing of the ATS and the CTS-3.6 Premiums. It turned out that the ATS was then around 52K and the CTS around 54K. My impression was that the ATS was over priced and the CTS for less than 55K would be a better deal.

Did I miss something in my comparison? Is the CTS a better car than the ATS?

Thanks

Re: CTS vs ATA Pricing

to me, the cts is a far more attractive offer because of the bigger back seat.....the ats has gotten great press as being extremely nimble, but I think the back is just a little too small...

Re: CTS vs ATA Pricing

If you want the features of the ATS Premium, you only
need to get the CTS at the Luxury level. Either can have 3.6.
I think CTS Premium is higher than 54K, both at MSRP.

The ATS starts at a lower level, thus the the price rises
quickly when adding options that are standard in the CTS at
the Lux level.

ATS is good if the size is big enough and you prefer quick
cornering and a bit faster, with the less weight. It's the size
of your 328.

CTS is a more luxury car, with more touring tires and more
weight, with more luxury items. If you want it faster and
more sporty, then there is the V-Sport. CTS is about
13" longer than ATS or your 328. On the road in traffic,
the CTS size looks fine, but sitting next to a ATS, the CTS
looks big.

The ATS has more of a go-cart feel, which is a lot of fun. The CTS has a nicer interior with higher quality materials. The CTS also makes more of an impression of a nicer, more expensive car. Drive both and you will have your answer. I had an XTS loaner, and my bet is you'll be even happier with either the ATS or CTS.

Great topic to bring up here. I'm 6'4" and about 250. I've never sat in an ATS, but afraid it would be too small. If not for that, I'd consider one.

I am 6'2" 275 and had a ATS Loaner, I was comfortable in the car however the back seat behind me is useless once I am comfortably seated.
I currently have a 2011 CTS and once comfortably seated the back seat behind me is slightly less useless.
The ATS I had was pretty well loaded, 2.0 liter. Leather, heated seats etc. I know a lot of folks do not like the CUE, I thought it was great once I got used to it after a day. I after riding in it for close to a week, the fingerprints everywhere drove me nuts.

I don't have the current ATS or CTS yet, but have been sitting
in them. Once in you have plenty of room.
In the ATS, I suggest at you height, that you get the
Perf or Premium, for the more adjustable seats and no
sunroof, for better head room. No sunroof in a Perf or Prem
ATS will probably require a custom order, as all dealers think
those wanting higher end models also want a sunroof, the
most useless $1000 feature in a car.

the most useless $1000 feature in a car.

It's all subjective I realize, but I love the ultraview sunroof.
