hi all,
first post on the forum. I purchased a cts-v coupe one month ago. Great car, but after reading every post on this forum, everyone says i need a tune to wake up the manual. On my trucks i had purchased a bullydog tuner for my ford, and ppe tuner for my gm. I cant find where i can purchase a tuner for my V. Any help would be appreciated. by the way, added a kpe cold air intake ( purchased from this forum) last weekend and you can really hear the supercharger scream at wide open throttle.... gotta love it....

Most people put a tune in to wake up the engine :) the manual shouldn't have any issues as there isn't any tuning to it. If you have an auto the a tune will do wonders.

2 schools of thought,

1) mail order, pretty sure onlye LPE and W4M do those.
2) Dyno tune, tends to give each car the best bang for the buck.

Good luck and have fun! ;)

I agree with Domsz06, a in person tune is specific to your car and how it reacts to your given environment.

I have been down both roads and hands down was happier in all area's with my car with a dyno tune.

The above mentioned companies also provide this service and in the end runs you about the same price as the SCT.

All i had to do was send him my base files, and he sent a custom file back for both tcm / ecm and i've been data logging the different changes. Apparently he has made it work as well. I have the handheld that holds the 3 custom tunes. I found a local shop here that has a dyno and sct software and hopefully when the weather breaks to the warm side hopefully get some numbers from James tune. I'm quite happy with it / tune, James is prompt in emails and calls when his work load permits.

The difference between mine and others are that mine dont store the programming events in the ecms and are hidden even when put back to stock or left in the computers.

I agree. A hand held tune would not be very precise at all because you are pretty much guessing. You can't be very precise so it's some guesswork and a lacks a lot of the refinement that you can get with a car on a dyno. Tuners will tell you these cars are very finicky and that last 20 RHWP is elusive even on a good day on the dyno. If you take a little time to do it right you will be happy you did. Find a lot shop to bring it in to. Where are you located?

So what are you saying, that the sct tunes leave a footprint when removed that can be detected by gm and you "hide your tunes above and beyond". What difference does that make. The regular sct tunes when removed return the ecm to baseline, nondetectable according to sct. Sounds like a marketing hype :hmm:

Road trip :)

The big question, is it worth 1200 miles to have a dialed tune or is a canned tune good enough.

I didn't have a good experience with the SCT tune. Although Others have. But if you don't like it you wasted your money and have to drive 1200 miles round trip to have it fixed. (assuming you have mods that will boom boom pow with a stock tune)

What he is saying is that ALL TUNES leave a foot print in the TCM, ECM, and other items in your car.... HIS handheld, or if you go to him in person are NOT traceable by GM if you go back to stock from having one of his tunes, or if you have him tune via dyno on the phone.....

SCT is not lying in the marketing, the tunes when removed ARE NOT traceable in the TCM, and ECM... that being said there are other devices that GM scans and THESE will tell that you have modded your car and therefore voided your warranty.

I'm not trying to tell you to go with a SCT, Dyno, or Jesse's dyno or Jesse's SCT.

What I am saying is what do you want to do:

1) do you want the best bang for your car, with no real care about warranty go to a dyno.
2) Are you concerned with price, then get the SCT or Jesse's as I think they are both the cheapest.
3) Are you wanting the best bang for your buck, and the ability to go back to stock and hide, ship your car to jesse.

I'm no way affiliated with Jesse, I'm just backing up his claim to "untraceable part" If you search the forums I'm sure you can put 2 n 2 together....

Good luck and have fun....
