I’m new to the forum and a new “V” owner. I purchased a used “V” in November. I’ve seen a lot of e-mails regarding wheel hop. I’ve yet to experience it, but I guess it’s because I drive like an old man.

Anyway it appears Cadillac hasn't done much to fix it or can’t seem to fix it.

Has any contacted the Cadillac “Speed World Challenge” racing team? I can’t imagine that they experience wheel hop in the CTS V ”R” when blowing by Vetts and Vipers. Maybe I'm being naive, but I asume they use the same rear end.:hmm:

Its not the factory suspension. We build the engine, not the cars, so I'm not sure of the details. I tried to find you a pic and this is the only one I could find.

Are you with the race team?

If so does the "R" experience "wheel hop"?

Is it the same rear end?

The "R" supposedly uses Specter Werks' black delrin bushings to quell wheel-hop and rear-cradle movement. Some of us installed the Specter's before the GM TSB bushings were released, I'm quite happy with mine so far. They don't eliminate hop, but do a good job of reducing it.
The "R" also has a much stiffer/different suspension and they aren't "launching" the V but once a race.

I don't know what they run for a differential.

The VRs rear end whined like crazy when it passed me at 90 mph in Denver. Wheel hop mostly occurs from a start and they only start once. I think they rarely go back into first also.

The only time the wheel hop would really happen is from a standstill so watch the challenge cars when they leave the pits. Most race cars light them up at that point anyway.

i talked to the pit crew cheif at pratt miller and they said their shit is so incredibly modified you'd never be able to take it as a daily driver. its COMPLETELY different.

Not necessarily the diff but the suspension could be absolutely brutal. I went to coil-overs on the Vette and put 425#f/350#r springs (lighter than the 600/500 mix some racers suggested)... on rough pavement its amazing my fillings don't fall out and the hatch sounds like its going to shatter. :helpless:
Racecars also have no suspension droop so the wheels won't conform to rough roads which is an unsafe condition.
The gearing might be really awkward too, requiring you to row the gears too much. Remember they gear for track conditions and optimum engine power. Imagine if you had to use all 6 gears in stop-and-go traffic. :ill:
Also, full race clutches tend to be on/off switches. I have pretty near that in my Daytona. What a PITA to commute with! :banghead:

let me rephrase: you wouldnt want to take it as a daily driver. They seemed pretty adament about not suggesting what they do for a daily driven car.

Same diff as the CTS-V runs... they swtiched to a light-weight, race-diff, and the World Challenge judges hit them with a 250lbs weight 'penalty'... so they went back to a stock diff. They may change the diff after every race... but it's definitely the same diff.

No idea... maybe they start the race smoothly... i.e. low rev-start, no wheel hop, no side-stepping the clutch. Then once the car is moving, they do perfect heel-toe shifts every time (which you'd want to do to be smooth and fast anyway)... so there is zero shock to the diff. And the VR is MUCH lighter than the V... further reducing stress on the driveline.

You're on your stock diff right?? And you're making more power than the VR (i think it's limited to 500hp)
