I think the sub that is installed behind the back seat underneath the rear windshield on my car just went out?

Has this happened to anyone? If so, what is the cost to get a new on through the dealership?

Am I better off going to best buy and buying speaker and installing it myself?

Any input would be great.

If the car is under warranty, they will replace it at no cost to you. Otherwise you'll need to pay for the parts and labor. Do you have the bose system or base? Surprisingly, the Bose system has a subwoofer that is much cheaper than the base system. I can't remember how much each of them are though.

If your car is still under warranty, take it to the dealer to fix. If not, you can fix it yourself.

You also need to explain what 'went out' means. Is the speaker intermittent, static filled, or simply stop working? It could be wiring or loose connector between the amp and the speaker too. If you need a sub, the factory one is cheaper than aftermarket. Get them at GMPartsDirect.com.

The Bose sub is PN 25684704, and runs $58.40
The base model sub is PN 9376880,and runs $73.20

The base model has dual voice coils and separate wiring for each coil. The Bose sub has a single pair of wires for the hookup.

Just out of curiosity, if you have the base radio, would you be able to replace the sub with the bose, and if so would it sound better (louder/cleaner) than the base sub?
