CTS not a Catera??

While most on the forum don't want to associate their CTSs with the old Catera line and insist they aren't related, I disagree. Having read a few posts about it that seems to be the concensus, with some claiming to have GM inside info that the "C" just stands for "C-series", I think GM just retired the Catera's name as it did the Seville, Deville, Eldorado, etc., to go with the current alphabet soup of initials for model designations. Believe what you want if it makes you feel better but last week when I ordered some parts (seat belt retractor, a dash cover, A/B module, etc.)for the 2004 CTS right from GM they came with papers, for saftey installation and such, that said: "for installation in only model year 2004 CATERA...". Should have saved them and scanned it in. I have almost finished the CTS except for the A/B and dash and it's a great fun car but it sure doesn't have the features that came standard on the '98 Catera. If only the old Catera had that terrific 3.6L instead of the 3.0L!! Reliability issues?? 123K on the Catera (I am not original owner) and everything still works. I'm not bashing the CTS or those that love it, just trying to say that I think they have a lot more in common than most want to accept. I know the CTS can be equipped with a ton of options, and mine isn't, but for the time the Catera was conceived it was/is impressive. I love the looks of both, different as they are and to run around in the CTS is wonderful. For a roadtrip I'd drive the Catera. I'll put the flame suit on now and wait it out.:stirpot:

This is well known. A lot of the parts on the cts says catera.
I guess I would follow up your post with...maybe youre right but whats the point?
My CTS has every possible option. I wouldnt have it ANY other way!

same old topic.... im going to the GYME :showoff: :dumbbells:
The Catera was a mistake. It's why they don't make it anymore. Cimmeron was another Cadillac mistake. Cadillac Fu**s up from time to time.
I don't think you're going to get a lot of argument about the roots of the Catera Touring Sedan, but from a practical aspect, they are different autos and reside in different forums. Just like how the FWD STS v RWD/AWD STS live in two different forums.

I liked the looks of the Catera and thought it would be an interesting car to own. Then I rode to lunch with a client who had one on lease. He swore it would be the last Cadillac he'd ever own because he'd been stranded by the car a couple of times and it spent more time in the shop than in his garage. Although, in the year plus I spent at that site, I always saw the car there.
I owned a 98' Catera and then I leased a 00 Catera. Just because some of the parts are interchangeable, it doesn't mean they are the same car. If anything, I have the most educated opinion on this subject. Basically, you are a douche for starting the thread. and as for the comment that cadillac F's up from time to time. What car company on the planet doesn't!!! Also, there is nothing I would want on my CTS that the Catera had except for the sunshade. Do you think DTS or STS have anything to do with seville or deville. Your braking new ground copernicus!
This again??? :alchi:

and FWIW, I totally agree w/phredd. :highfive:
