CTS Headlamp Problem

886 Views 6 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Smileydawg
I have a 2005 CTS. The driver side headlight randomly turns off. If I turn off the headlights and back on, it will come back on, but not for long. If I turn off the car, the headlight will stay on. This happens once or twice a week. The dealer's solution is to replace the whole headlamp unit, which is $1400. This is outrageous for something that is happening randomly. Has anyone had this problem and has a cheaper fix?

why replace the headlamp unit (housing) it hasn't anything to do with the lamp and wiring. I would think a bad ground in the wiring or connector to the headlamp unit would be the place to start looking...........
Is it a halogen or HID? If it's an HID, buy replacments and do it yourself. ( buy both sides to get the color to match) There are kits on e-bay for less than $100. If it's halogen, it may be a burned out base socket.
rocketfire... having same problem. What was your fix?

was 1400 a typo? if u goto the dealership urself u would pay 400 from GM and installing is easy u just gotta pull the bumper off. dont let the stealership charge you 1400 for a freakin headlight unless theyre for your lambo you have hidden in the garage.

Actually he is correct one of my ballast burnt out and I went to factory to see if they have any use to sell or spear and they said no I would have to buy a new hid headlight replacement and that is for 1700 and I was curious if that costed all that how much would be for a bulb an they told me 400 for one single bulb, now thats rediculous.
