The Good: CTS Coupe private values trending up.

On several for sale websites the standard CTS Coupe are not to my surprise trending up in price. While on car value research websites are not?

The Bad and Ugly:

Carfax Report. After recently getting neck deep into Carfax reporting. I discovered Carfax lumps together both Damage/Accident reports together!!! I personally I think this is absurd and misleading prospective buyers.

For instance, if your car was reported with Damage (scratch etc) it would cause you a financial hardship by significantly adversely affect the value of your car if you where to sell it.

Carfax provides no further explanation or justification of what the damage was or who it was reported by! Nor if damage was repaired and most likely it was not. I call BS on this and don't understand why they are not liable for financial damage to the seller/owner(s).

Also I have learned, there is a dispute form available on the Carfax website! As well as a available by a web search to a "step by step guide" to potential success of getting your Carfax report corrected.

I recently filed mine after discovering that my Carfax report unknowingly had a damage report on 2019 while between dealerships prior to the car being sold into private ownership. Good job lot boy and/or presale team!

Have good day everyone.

I don't believe it's that awful much of an issue for practical buyers. Ultimately, what the buyer sees and likes and how the owner addresses follow-up questions about anything Carfax lists as a subject for concern will determine the value of the car to a buyer in the absence of having rebuilt/salvaged on the title.

If it looks good and is in great shape someone will want it for the asking price. My car hasn't been to a service center in about 5 years but carfax continues to update the mileage using an average estimate based on the last service mileage that was sold/reported to them. They're wayyy over.

An owner should sell their property for what they feel it is worth, not what some third party values it at, that's what banks and insurance companies use to take advantage of us with.

I've been looking at this beauty here, rubbing my hands together and thinking, "What if.". Carfax hasn't crossed my mind once.
You don't need an account to see it.

I get what your saying.... Maybe I am a stickler for accurate reporting, kinda what I do for a living and live my life

I am not ignorant.

I do not agree with Carfax lumping together Damage/Accident reporting it could easily be misrepresentation and is subjective.

I would be naive to think, everyone is as intelligent as you are.

No disrespect intended but I believe you may be missing the point... It is not me researching a car to purchase. Believe me I am not ignorant of knowing how.

The point is... Most people depend too much on a Carfax report. Which is Carfax business model and advertising.

Most all car sales sites list Repair or Accident Reported on the vehicles opening page. Especially on the Carfax used car for sale site. Thusly a Damage or Accident reported will most likely immediately negatively influence and limit the market share of buyers.

At the least, it puts your car in the scratch and dent department. Where it is expected to be discounted or a severe negotiation of the price is expected.

Not saying I would....but I essentially could report damage or an accident on anyones car.... Based on a Carfax report, it provides no further information of who reported the damage, specific details or if a repair was made.

I remain to call BS on Carfax to even go there to provide damage reported unless the vehicle was accutully reported as being in an "accident" reported by police, insurance, body shop or other creditable source.

Carfax even goes on further to say on their website. They require you to research and provide them documents police or otherwise if you want your Carfax revised! Which make no sense... ya, I would like to report an accident to put on or revise my Carfax report? Dah!...if you disputing a false damage report what proof could you possibly have? I sent the pictures of my undamaged car and copy of my dated reported.

I understand if Carfax wants to provide a quality valuable service to the consumer or seller such as car title status, maintenance records, even ownership, location history etc. but stay the heck out of subjective issues and hearsay.

A scratch/dent may mean very little to me ....but might be unacceptable to someone else. Same goes for condition of paint, tires interior etc. I personally would be interested in a Mary Kay Cadillac so reporting is color useful.
Otherwise let us be our own judge as many of you have said.

For Pete's Sake we are buying/selling a used car not a new one.

PS: I took my car in for PPI at a Cadillac dealership nothing was discovered!

Have a good day....

The decision is in....

Carfax will not fix their mistake nor justify the source of their false information....

There you go..I wouldn't trust anything on a Carfax report....FAKE NEWS...good product marketing I must say....$49 a pop for Fake unreliable reports...

Buyer beware of..... Carfox a perfect mascot for a sly consumer product!

It may have been you who missed my point, which was the same point you tried to make. One can't rely on CarFax, one way or the other.

Oddly enough same thing here...... I purchase my wife a XTS with a "clean" Carfax report.............. I discovered while washing, the rear quarter panel was replaced by seeing the weld bead across the pillar, while looking at it just at the correct angle in the sun.

So I totally agree CarFax reports are not accurate.............so why even bother relying on or purchasing an inferior consumer product.

So for us to be honest upstanding citizens we should report our findings to Carfax LOL!! I am sure they would accept our self report but no way ever remove them.
