I recently purchased a 2010 CTS Sportwagon. What a wonderful vehicle, only ruined by the horrible front wheel brake dust. What a shame. I have had a lot of cars in my 60 years and none, (barring my daughter's Dodge Caravan) have ever produced brake dust like this CTS. Is anyone else annoyed by this issue? Has anyone found the solution to either eliminating, or "easy" cleaning (my finger is wearing out).

Don't know how many miles you have but with some cars until the pads seat themselves they will dust more than normal, this can also happen if the rotors have a rough finish on them, but it should stop after 1k miles or so, I know I have several Escalade's and there is almost no dust from the pads, besides that just keep your wheels "waxed" and cleanup will be much easier

Modern brake pads can tend to dust as the compromise of wear and braking power is engineered.

If you have the factory coated wheels, try a wheel cleaner like Mothers Foaming All Wheel & Tire Cleaner -- spray it on, let it set for 30 seconds or so (scrub a little if necessary) and hose off with a strong spray. Cleans tires real well, too!

Try a different type of brake pads. Semi metalic, or ceramic. If you let a dealer install brakes, specify the good ones, or do it yourself. They will use generic pads. I have ceramic on front, semi metalic on back, and the dust is so minimal, I do a quick wipe every week or so..

ceramic is the way to go since the dust particles don't get electrically charged they don't stick to the wheel nearly as much (plus ceramic is a lighter color usually)

you've apparently never owned a BMW since just about every idiot Bimmer owner i see around town here has black front wheels and silver rear wheels

as you drive around look at other vehicles and notice how much brake dust they've got

I read an article not too long ago that explained the brake dust on your wheels as primarily coming from the rotors and not the pads, so there's that to consider. Brake dust
