So If any of you recognize me, I had a thread a while ago about the SC 3.8 swap but I ended up putting that in a camaro. So I'm back to square one: Finding an engine. So what I have seen is that the 3.2 v6 out of the CTS looks identical to the 3.0. Now Iv heard a lot of both sides to this engine, good and bad. I want to hear you opinion on the 3.2, and will the transmission from the 3.2 match the code of the car?

So I found the Catera has the 4L30-E transmission and the CTS has the 5L40-E transmission, which is the successor of the 4L30-E. I'm guess I will need the TCM. Now where is the TCM located on the Catera and the CTS?

Here in Europe you can get the Opel Omega in different petrol engines 2.0 / 2.2 / 2.5 V6 / 3.0 V6 / 2.6 V6 / 3.2 V6 and 2.0 / 2.2 / 2.5 diesel engine.
The 3.0 V6 is used in the Catera and the 3.2 V6 is used in the CTS.
The only different is between the Omega 3.2 V6 and the CTS 3.2 V6 (same engine) is the transmission, the Omega uses an AR25 / AR35 that is a small modified 4L30E the CTS uses a 5L40E.
So you can change the 3.0 engine for a 3.2 engine and still use the 4L30E.

Yes & No. The 3.2 block is identical externally so it will fit the compartment using either motor mounts. However, the oil pans are different due to the crossmembers. The good news is that the 3.0 oil pan will fit the 3.2.

Obviously, if your Catera is a '99-'01 you'll have to use the Drive by Wire components. Use the 3.2 fuel regulator with the 3.0 injectors for the best burn.
