CT6-V transmission reliability

I currently have a 19 CT6 Sport, but my local dealer has a 19 V with a little over 20k miles. They disclosed it was bought back as a lemon due to some rough shifts with the transmission, but it's supposed to have all that sorted out now.

Caught my attention since they have it listed st $54k, so now I'm wondering is it worth taking a look. Anyone had their transmission replaced here and how has it been holding up?

Thinking about scheduling a test drive and curious what to look for. Does GM even offer extended warranties when they do lemon buy backs?

The warranty question would probably be one for the selling dealer. My trans has been flawless to this point (25.5k miles). I'd like to keep it that way, so I just changed the filter and 1/2 the fluid (I didn't flush it - just a pan drop and filter change).

Certainly worth going to take a look!

Reaching out today to schedule a test drive either for tomorrow or this weekend. An extended test drive and warranty would make or break the deal for me on this unless the dealer is shady. I worry that once I feel the performance from this engine, my 3.0TT won't be enough or ever feel the same again lol.

Can't let the Mrs. know that. I got my first ticket in forever a couple months ago doing almost exactly that. Changed lanes to pass up a car and went from 40 - 65 in the blink of an eye. Biker cop pulled me over quick and even told me I was doing fine till I decided to change lanes and pass up the other driver.

Wow just wow. The test drive was awesome, had a blast and this is what's missing with my CT6 Sport. The exhaust notes are on point, power at every point, the car feels very firm and solid compared to my sport.

My only complaint was the lag when shifting in manual mode, but everything else was spot on in this car. The Auburn interior is much darker than I expected when compared to pictures, I thought it was black at first, but the sun was setting.

The salesman had limited knowledge on the car and couldn't tell me anything other than it has a new transmission from the lemon buy back and they're giving it a 6k mile warranty which seems short for having the entire transmission replaced. He mentioned that alone has made it hard for them to sell this, so asked them about pricing it lower and he said he'll get back to me.

If they can lower the price and give me an extended warranty, I think we might have a deal!

Don't think I've ever seen anyone else have a tran issue with these beasts. Only recommendation would be replace oem brake pads with Porter that are awesome n cheap. Imo for what you get as a complete packadge car is a steal. Cause equivalent cars these days go for 150k+ it's seems here in poop Canada. Taxes r just insane now.

Offer submitted to the dealer and fingers crossed they accept or counter with something reasonable. My biggest complaint and ask for them to remove are the dealer installed items. I can't believe dealers still think it's ok to tack on a paint protector, alarm system, and GPS tracker to these vehicles. The car already has a security system, maybe not the best but has one. The GPS system too is a waste in my mind since the vehicle has OnStar which offers tracking through the app and can be used to disable the vehicle if stolen.

Maybe someone can help me read this, I'm not seeing where they replaced or even fixed the transmission. I'm only seeing they couldn't replicate the owners issue when brought in, but the salesman I spoke with during my drive said they replaced the transmission and now the manager for sales says it was fixed:

They sent me the full Carfax report and it shows a bit more to the story, but the dates are different between the dealer records and the carfax. There were more oil changes done, but not at a dealer which might be why the report above shows 1. This vehicle was a corporate fleet vehicle for the first 10k miles then sold to an actual customer for the next 14k miles where the owner had it bought back as a lemon. The story I'm getting from the report is this:

3/17/20 vehicle purchased
3/26/20 vehicle serviced @ dealer
8/18/20 vehicle serviced @ dealer
12/16/20 vehicle serviced @ dealer
12/20/21 vehicle serviced @ dealer
2022 couple oil changes outside dealership network

Then the following
  • 2/01/23 Mileage 24,098
  • VEHICLE REACQUIRED
Vehicle reacquired by the manufacturer pursuant to applicable state consumer warranty laws or to promote customer satisfaction.
  • Reason provided by Manufacturer:
    • Transmission starts chugging/jerking

  • 2/09/23 Mileage 24,477
  • Vehicle serviced

  • 3/17/23
  • MANUFACTURER BUYBACK OR LEMON REPORTED

  • 6/10/23 Mileage 24,486
  • Vehicle offered for sale
So I suspect the dealer services in 2020 and 21 might have been transmission related and they finally bought it back this year? Still no details on the transmission being replaced though other than the vehicle having 400 miles added on after the buy back. When I drove it, didn't notice any chugging or issues. Still talking, so I might go back out there on Friday if they can clear things up for me.

If I was you I would go back and drive it again and keep it as long as you can . To make up my mind.

Looks like it should still be under GM Powertrain warranty? Mine was a former media car that GM sold with ~500 miles on it and I got it with 1,700. My B2B expires in Feb, but I still have the full powertrain out to whatever the coverage is (5 years and 60k? 70?).

If the price is right and the warranty is in effect, I'd jump on it.

All factory warranties minus the B2B are still good on this vehicle:

I just caught this as well, looks like the previous owner had an extended warranty that's still active:

Almost had it, but couldn't get the numbers to work out. First the dealer wanted to give me $33k for my Sport. This is lower than what I'm willing to take for it. I understand used vehicle prices are dropping and the dealer isn't going to give me top dollar, but I at least expected the lower end of the KBB price which is $37k. Then due to the lemon on the title, none of the better finance companies were willing to finance the loan, so I got stuck with GM as the only option. Since they have no competition, rates were not what I was happy and willing to pay. I'm checking with my bank to see if they would even allow me to refinance with the title being branded with the lemon status. If not, there's no way I would allow myself to be stuck at the unfair rates being offered.

True, sucks this could have been a nice Xmas gift for us too. Kills me that the dealer was trying to convince and sell me on the fact I was getting a great deal since the blue book value has the car valued between $67k to $70k+ yet they don't acknowledge the blue book value on my trade.

I was kind of afraid you might hear that on your sport trade-in value... As quickly as the (non black wing) platinums drop in value, I'm disappointed but not surprised that the sports also dropped somewhat quickly.

That was a big part of the way I talked myself into getting a v... If something didn't work out I figured I would still be able to sell it for nearly what I paid for it.

I'm thinking the gas pedal has a lot to do with some of the hard shifting from first to second.

The gas pedal on the ct6 is boating on the floor from the bottom.

Therefore, you can't step on it like you step on a regular gas pedal, The regular gas pedal is mounted from the top and you push the bottom of the gas pedal to make the car move

The gas pedal on the ct6 again is mounted to the floor so you have to go put your whole foot on the gas pedal heel toe and press the top of the gas pedal and all your hard shifts should disappear from 0 to 20 mph. I found this to be true. I think it's just a bad design on the gas pedal

Honestly, I'd say the 10 speed in my 2019 Sport is probably one of if not the smoothest transmission I've ever felt. I'm not sure what this 'pedal induced hard shifts' people are talking about is, but I've never experienced it 🤷‍♂️. The ONLY odd shifts I've had is when it's cold - and I don't mean first start in 12+ hours, I mean COLD, as in below 35 or 40* AND the first shift of the day, the first 1-2 or 2-3 shift (I don't recall which right now) is LONG. After that first shift, it's like normal. I suspect it's related to fluid draining out of clutches and the thicker fluid when that cold taking longer to move through the transmission and refill them. I wouldn't call it harsh or jerky, it's just noticeably long, unlike the nearly imperceivable shifts when warmer, and I sometimes had some 'fast' downshifts when braking to a stop when almost stopped that were probably the 3-2 and/or 2-1 that caused an increased rate of decel, similar to if you were to stab the brake a little harder. The first GM says is normal, and it's not really that bad, like I said, the shifts aren't harsh, just really long with a TON of defuel, and the second I haven't noticed as much if at all since a calibration update was performed.
