I have a 2016 3.0TT... had the transmission valve body replaced, flushed and filled with the new spec Mobil One fluid. They reflashed both the transmission and AWD modules - it took nearly two months in the shop and several loaner cars, but it was worth it! I still 'feel' the shifting when the car is cold, but after a mile or two, it is very well mannered. If you are thinking about a purchase, check the service history and see if they will let you do an extended test drive... and go to a road with as many stop signs as you can find. Mine had a problem with the 2nd to 1st downshift - it was a head bobber! Some people have reported a shudder at higher speeds that may be a torque converter issue. Problems have varied from car to car, skip buying it if you feel anything or negotiate a thorough warranty.

I am considering a purchase. 2016 AWD 3.6l 18kmi, 11 months factory left. I did not notice anything on the preliminary test drive. After negotiating a deal, I returned to thoroughly inspect the car. This test drive started in moderate traffic. As I was slowing down (5-10 mph), I released the brake and gently accelerated. Slip then hard engage. I was able to duplicate at the end of the run, same road with light traffic, but it was much softer. I really like the car but it seems many people were unable to resolve this issue. I don't want to by a car knowing I will likely be stuck with this issue. I was told there may be a TSB for flush fluid with new synthetic, re-program the computer then an extended drive to re-learn. I guess I should ask them to do the service you mentioned first, then re drive. Was that work covered under warranty? Finally, why did it take 2 months?

My car is still under the bumper to bumper warranty till 2021 due to it's late 'in service' date... it was the main factor in purchasing this car that had noticeable transmissions problems. I was lucky to find a good Cadillac dealer near my home that fought for the repairs that needed to be done. As for the long shop times... parts for these cars are surprisingly hard to get (maybe not too surprising because of the low production numbers - less than 40K cars to date). As the various issues were being diagnosed, parts were being back-ordered and then GM Engineering had to be involved during some of the programming steps. All in all, my wife and I love this car and NOW it really has a great ride. It turns heads wherever we go and I got a great deal on it... $45K with 12K miles (purchased last February). In 2021, after the warranty expires, I might have to look into a CT6 V... if they ever show up!

I was the owner of a 2016 3.0TT CT6. I really loved the car....except for the transmission woes. I loved the car so much that I traded it in for a 2019 Platinum 3.0TT. However, if not for the transmission issue I would have kept the 2016 which was in pristine condition otherwise. The tranny in the 2019 drives like a totally different car, absolutely smooth.

For the 2016 the transmission flush procedure helped significantly but did not eliminate the problem. In fact, there is no fix for the problem...GM has essentially admitted such (same issue in the Escalade and others)..

That said, this is the kind of problem that may be more or less tolerable for different people. So do head the advice already given. For the car that you are interested in make sure the dealer has at least performed the flush procedure. Then require the dealer to make the car available to you for an extended test drive over 2-3 days. If you can live with the performance fine, if not, save your money for a 2019.

What is the latest update on the CT6 transmission problems?
I read about the possible fix changing out the fluid to Mobil synthetic.
For those that have had this done, did it work?
Are there any other updates on this issue?

Brought my 2016 in to Cadillac to have the transmission looked at.
They performed what they called a "triple flush" and the shuddering appears to be gone. Driving and shifting much smoother now.
Car had 30,000 miles on it.
My only concern at this point is with warranty expiring in a few months will this be a permanent fix or will I need this service again in another 30,000 miles.
Lastly, a question...
When you bring your Cadillac in to your Cadillac dealer do they deliver the vehicle back to you washed and clean?
I was surprised this was not done. Am I expecting too much?

I would think this problem falls under the powertrain which is 6 years or 70k miles.

Sadly, you have to drop a hint, ‘do you mind running it thru your car wash?’ Half the time they’ll forget.

It depends on the dealership, mine you have to request no car wash otherwise they will wash and vacuum no matter the reason you bring it in including just to have it washed "Free Car Washes For Life". Good dealership.

I get free car washes with any service, and if you drive by the dealership you can get one just for the sake of a car wash (no work need be done) but since it is an automatic (with brushes) I always tell them that I don't want a wash.

And I think with the triple flush they are also using a different 'spec' fluid, so hopefully you should be good for a long, long time. (Glad you got some resolution with your transmission; continued good luck with it.)

Same with me. The dealer asks if I want a courtesy wash. I usually say yes. Most Cadillac dealers I have dealt with always wash the vehicle.

Don't mean to hijack the thread. Okay back to the main subject.

I had the transmission fluid / flush done and it improved the transmission performance somewhat. I still get the occasional harsh shift but only the transmission isn't up to full operating temperature. After its up to temperature it works fine.

I’m curious if this works... I got a 17’ CT6 Platinum 3.0 TT and the tranny is driving me crazy!

For the 8 speed transmissions the tranny flush helps for a time but slowly degrades back to where it was. There is no real fix. GM has admitted as much.....in the class action court cases they have actually argued it is not a defect, just normal performance for that transmission.

That was the case for my 2016 CT6. My 2019 CT6 (same 3.0TT engine but with the newer 10 speed) is a world of difference in that regard. You do not have to drive it more than a block to recognize that difference.

Do go ahead and have it done though.

So I had my fluids done back in June worked great for like a few months now its bumping all over the place. Today I was like..... I'm gonna drive in manual! The problem only happens for me going from first to second, so I said.... well I'm not going to use first gear! Now.... the car does move from a full stop in second gear fairly well. I'm not gonna try to drag race like this, but hey I come to a stop it drops to first, I shift up while stopped into second it kinda clicks and then when the light goes green I accelerate like normal and NO problems. Is there a reason to NOT do this???? The engine doesn't feel bogged down or anything no strain that I can tell? I might just always start in second instead of first, thoughts??
