Cracked dash!?!?

3113 Views 22 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  PORGUY
Well I noticed a day after I got my car that there was a small crack on the dash, up by the defroster vent on the drivers side. Lastnight I noticed that it is now all the way across from teh vent to the leather. UGHH!!

Is this a common thing on these cars? I have not seen anything about cracked dash in my skimming here. Any way to fix it or stop from spreading? Is the hard plastic part of the dash separate, or is the entire dash one assembly with leather and all?

...are you me? I just bought a dash mat for this very reason.
Thanks guys...

I will try to get a picture after work tongiht and post, just to make sure we are thinking the same part. The part in mine cracked I think got all the way across from apillar to apillar, but I need to look closer..
It's the same. Mine did it also. Just to lazy to fix it right now.
I have an old thread on how I did it on my Black V. I have absolutely no technical prowess and did it in 15 minutes.
Least I am not alone. Just a bummer as it was not there when I test drive, but after the weeks in customs and POS trucking Co it was there, very small, maybe .5" not it is alllll the way across..:mad2:

Thanks Alpha!!

Now the questions is, it there some way to reinforce the new one before you install so that IT does not crack as well?
You could probably line the back with a 3M type foam tape to handle some of the stress.

And keep all 4 tires on the road while driving it. ;)
Thanks Alpha!!

Has nothing to do with stress....
It's years of heat and cold, sunlight and age......

If I am doing that I am doing it wrong :p
Came up as this correct?

Just ordered it from dublin cadillac and while I was on the phone with parts they ordered my fuel pump recall parts and harness as well.
That just happened to mine this weekend, can you get it in tan or do you have to paint it? Does anyone have the instructions on how to change it out? Thanks in advance.
