Bass - there was one up in St. Francis just this last week and now it rumored that MN DNR came in to move it out because of the upcoming Pioneer Days. This photo was taken a few days ago along hwy 47 near the elementary school.

I will neither sign nor share. The two things that stand out are: why did it take animal control over an hour to get there; and, why didn't the police have a tranquilizer gun? Only the first question is valid. Completely unrealistic to think police officers would/should carry a tranq gun. I have never encountered police that did so.
On my local level, our little town has no animal control officer. We (the citizens) are it. We don't have bears, but we do have coyotes, wolves, bobcats, feral hogs, feral dog packs and the occasional rabid skunk, not to mention copperheads and cottonmouths. Family dogs and cats disappear regularly (mainly because of irresponsible owners who let their pets roam freely). If I'm out on my property, I'm armed and will protect my family and our pets. btw, Bass, your wit is razor sharp as always.

ya - they should have left the bear alone -
until it killed a kid - or a family dog -
The bear was reported to be seen a week before its death. It didn't harm or damage anything or anyone in all that time. Animal control were less than 5 minutes away and the bear was still hiding in the tree when the trigger happy cops decided to kill it. Completely unacceptable.

baller95, I admire someone who takes a stand and defends a belief, so propers to you on that. This forum is pretty well stocked with members who have strong beliefs about many things so you shouldn't be surprised when you are challenged.
Yeah I can see that and it's understandable. Oh well, I tried lol!

I don't like the idea of shooting up into the air. Should have cut down the tree & then blasted the bear when on the ground. Firewood & food for needy families. Win win.

Once you have seen a Mazda 3 that somebody left their groceries in and a grizzly bear got to it, your whole outlook on bears will be changed. The car was opened up like a Campbell's soup can. As cute and fuzzy as a bear may look, he can run down a deer with an incredible burst of speed and can knock a man's head right off his shoulders with one swipe of a paw. You have a better chance of being killed by a bear in Alaska than being run over by a cab in Manhattan. An average sportsman carries a sidearm so he can shoot himself as the bear eats him alive. The wise sportsman carries minimum a 12 ga. shotgun loaded with slugs. I take my .458 Winchester.

-------------------------------------------------

FWIW, The use of a tranquilizer gun requires a great deal of skill and preparation in preparing the dart. Too much drug, the animal dies, and the public tears a strip off the officer. Not enough drug and the bears recovers just in time to extract some vengeance.

------------------------------------------------

There are a multitude of cases where people have encountered bears around here and all that's recovered is shoe soles and belt buckles in the bear's poop.
