Considering purchase of a 2014 XTS platinum v sport

I’ll be honest I’m not very knowledgeable about Cadillac's at all but I’m being offered a 2014 Cadillac XTS platinum v sport with just under 80k miles for $20k. It’s never been in an accident, clean title etc. and I like how it looks and it will be a commuter car where I’ll be on the highway 95% of the time. I’m wondering what are the known issues or gremlins I need to worry about? Are there any big services I want to make sure were done? Thanks for any help

Welcome to the forum! I am a very happy camper with my 2014 V-Sport Platinum. I purchased mine in December 2020 for $14,995 with 88K miles and it has since gone up in value. It is currently worth $18500, or so I'm told by the internet. Prices are very dependent on where you are. I live in the Seattle area and Larson Cadillac currently has a 2014 V-Sport Platinum on their lot with 84K miles and they are asking $25,991. I bought my car in PA due to the high prices here. I have had no issues with the car except the auto level air compressor is very loud and will need to be replaced in the not too distant future, but it's working so I haven't been too concerned. I also have a weird shudder that only happens for a second or two when coming to a stop. I suspect a torque converter issue but it isn't top of mind. Pay close attention to the suspension when you test drive it. The magnetic ride control struts and shocks are spendy. I voted no in your poll because I paid less for mine, but again location plays a big factor ($25,991 here for same car).

I appreciate the response and help. I assumed that magnetic suspension is expensive because you don’t hear about cars having them often but not sure how much they are to replace. I’ll make sure my mechanic takes a good look and get a price just in case. Ya the car market is crazy over here in the northeast as well. My wife turned in an expedition lease about 2 months ago and we bought it just to sell it right away and made $15k I have never seen anything like this. So it sounds like I may be over paying fir the XTS a bit I feel a little more comfortable with that since I’m trading in a Ford that I bought 18 months ago with 77k miles and now has 108k but getting almost exactly what I paid back then. Thanks again

The magnetic ride suspension is fairly pricey. I think I have seen people posting prices of having the dealer replace it for $1500-$2000-ish, not sure if that is all 4 corners or just two at a time. If you are handy, the front struts are $400 on Rock Auto, when the time comes. That will be the way I go.

I recently bought a 2016 Premium, non-Vsport, just the FWD N/A 3.6. I bought it right after thanks giving with 85K miles for $17500. At the time I thoguht it was a great price. I could pretty much get what I paid for it back right now. The price that chazglenn3 paid is really good. I thought about going for a vsport, but didn't want the premium gas tax or the slightly lower MPG. I wasn't looking for a scorcher. That 3.6TT can be tuned to make some insane power.

Overall, I'm still extremely please with my purchase. I've only put about 4K miles on the car since I bought it, but it is a joy to drive. It rides very well, is quite and very comfortable. I bought the car planning to drive it for the next 8-10 years, and after 8 months it still brings a smile to my face.

I kind of feel these cars are a little overlooked and people go to the other vehicles in the Cadi line up and therefore prices are a little lower. When I was looking, there were Impala's with similar miles that were selling for more than the XTS.

I really don't think you can go wrong with one.

Let me start by saying that I love my 17 XTS V Sport.

With that said, I would not buy one without factory/certified warranty/top tier GMPP warranty (or whatever they call it now). Therefore, the price would have to be out of the stratosphere incredible. Your price is not out of the stratosphere incredible, so I voted no.

As with any high-end car with a lot of gizmos and gadgets, of any make or model, there are so many things that can go wrong. You don't want to be in a position to have a car like that, and decide not to fix certain items because of cost.

ya the amount of computers and everything in cars these days can make the car ownership experience miserable
