Tired of dealing with my 1996 sts so looking to buy this seville with 122,000m on the body and 80,000 on motor and trans from an 2003 sts. The car dosent appear to have airbags but the motor and trans seems to be running great. Whats the fail rate on the headgaskets on this year motor? It's a really good price and the car needs front struts really bad. Was thinking about mastercraft aftermarket struts. Any opinions? How hard would it be to get the car up to code? Anyway the codes are:
U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction
U1040 - Loss of Class 2 Communications with ABS
P0036 - Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Heater Control Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0137 - Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0141 - Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Heater Performance Bank 1 Sensor 2
P1571 - Traction Control Torque Request Circuit
C0615 - Left Front Position Sensor Malfunction
C0710 - Steering Position Signal Malfunction
B0017 - Right Front/Passenger Frontal Deployment Loop (Single Stage or Stage 1) Open
B0026 - Left Front/Driver Frontal Deployment Loop (Single Stage or Stage 1) Open
B0051 - Deployment Commanded
B0058 - Right Front/Passenger Pretensioner Deployment Loop Open
B0065 - Left Front/Driver Pretensioner Deployment Loop Open

Certainly can see why it has no air bags. The last 5 codes indicate they were deployed in an accident. The tranny may be from a 2003 car, but I doubt the motor is. Too hard to make it work in a 1999 car, but I could be wrong. Does the car have spark plug wires?

Too many potential issues with this car to even consider. You can find a clean, never wrecked 00+ STS with under 100k for $6k all day long. You can find '98's with blown HG for around $1k, have them fixed and then be set for quite awhile.

I know one thing though, I wouldn't even look at this STS twice.

Sounds like it was hit in the front end HARD. Hard enough to be totaled and it wasn't turned in on insurance, so it wasn't considered so. Probably a headache and a half waiting to happen.

Walk away. A FWD Seville that was hit in the front end that hard will NEVER be right.

With the present codes set and in history you're already in the $3,000 + repair business.

.......and the 2003 engine in a 99 sounds fishy. Does this "2003" engine have spark plug wires ???
