I just received an estimate to replace my leaking compressor for 550$ Canadian, labor & freon included. Does this sound right?

Fair price if they are using a NEW AC DELCO compressor, a new dryer, orifice tube and IF THEY ARE EVACUATING THE SYSTEM FOR 45 MIN.

Do not accept rebuilt or aftermarket compressor. You would be better off finding a low mileage one at junk yard. I am convinced aftermarket parts are seconds. (Been doing this for 40+ years.)

Agreed. The aftermarket stuff uses cheap parts in the rebuild, and you'll be replacing it again within 2 years. A/C - Water Pump - Alternator: use only AC/Delco.

Had a compressor job done on my 94' last month. I am also in agreement, definatly avoid aftermarket compressors. $550 CAN sounds fair. Make sure the dryer and orface tube are included as stated above.
