COMMON ISSUE: Windshield wipers won't turn off

Hey all my damn windshield wipers wont turnoff unless i pull the motor fuse out of the fuse box anyone know why this might be so? heard it could be the pulse sensor? have a good feeling its not involved with the actual switch in the steering column! it fixed itself for a couple of days but is now back!

Re: windshield wipers 2004 cts base v6

It's the motor.

Or more specifically the circuit board that is mounted inside with the actual motor. Some folks found just that piece while others had to buy the "motor" and whatever else goes with it, the housing and aforementioned circuit board.

KOT
Wonder if they have a part number for the circuit board so I don't have to order the whole motor.. Motor on Rock auto is like 120 bucks

I found it.

Re: Windshield Wipers won't turn off

yeah, I was gonna look up all this stuff the other night, so I am glad they merge this thread. I swapped the entire motor when I fixed mine.
Well I paid for the switch already, I'll just eat the 90 bucks and replace that. I'll order the circuit board if that doesn't solve it and if it doesn't work after that I'll just order the whole motor. Seems like a easy fix. Just have to locate the problem.
Omg, My 04 did this a few years back, they would turn themselves on and then shut themselves back off, sometimes only a few minutes, sometimes an entire 2 hour car ride. The only thing though is this only lasted a month, and to this day hasn't happened again since, never thought anything of it but I wonder if it was this. Odd though how it's been at least 5 years and they never did it again though, idk.
Re: 2006 CTS - Windshield Wiper Issue

Does anyone know if this part number (88958172) is the same for Right hand drive Cars? Just bought an 05 RHD CTS here in Ireland with known issues and found out it's also got a disconnected wiper motor....

Thanks, Nick
06 CTS-V.

I had the problem where the washers spray constantly when the wipers are on. I changed the wiper motor cover (new one from GM, not a used part)... and now I have the problem where the wipers are on all the time.

Next step would be to replace the motor, yes?

Following up: Nope, it was a bad cover. Changed the cover again, and everything is working fine.

Would you guys recommend getting the cover part from a pick n pull deal place?
Re: Wiper motor has own mind 2004 CTS

mine was acting the same way .... i changed the cap on the windshield wiper motor and the wipers are good as new.
cost me about 70 bucks from GM parts web site
I had the same issue. Windsheild wipers wouldn't stop, or were erratic. Very frustrating, to where I had to pull the fuse.
Any how, for my 2003 CTS I bought this motor cover from Amazon ($73.24 total) and followed the instructions from this youtube video.
All in all, it took me about an hour - super simple, and my wipers are back to their normal functionalitity :)

Hi I'm having exacltly the same issue now.
Figured out that part numbers are different for RHD cars (I'm in UK)
The RHD version of the part is 3times more expensive !
Did you manage to solve the issue somehow ?
Re: 2006 CTS - Windshield Wiper Issue

I had the problem on a 2004 CTS I used heavy duty tin foil and formed it over the motor and connector 2 years ago and it has been fine.

Great !, Can You share a picture which capacitors You replaced and what they were?
And where did you get the bad joints ?
Had the relays been replaced as well?
there are only 3 capacitors in the unit i replaced them all as 2 was not working and most of the solder had dryed up so i just replaced them all and the had my wiper motor tested, the mean problem is the capacitors but i did get a 10 year guarantee on the module black box and it was not a very high in costing only a few dollars more that the cheap modules you can buy of ebay hope this help
I am starting to have this uncontrollable wiper problem on my '03 CTS (approaching 100K miles). From reading the more recent posts in this thread appears all I need to replace is the Wiper Circuit Board Cover, part #88958172.
As a "while you're there" approach does it make any sense to replace the motor? In looking at some of the online GM parts outlets appears the previous part number for the motor (88958251) has now been replaced by part #19354906. Again from reading this thread appears the Circuit Board Cover is included with the motor (#19354906). Is that correct?
In advance, thanks for the help & replies.
at the same time i had the motor fully checked and was good as new all the best
My wipers are once again behaving as they should (early '03 CTS w/ 100,700 miles). Installed plastic cover on wiper motor about a week ago. All's well.
Re: Wiper motor has own mind 2004 CTS

hehe.....this happened on me today. What a Joke! But its a easy fix, but the problem is another BAD CADI computer Board....probably bad Solder Points........You dont need a New MOTOR in Most instances.....just to " COVER " that contains the "Pulse Board ". Just Shake and Bake, and ur Done.
