I have a question about my collant temp telelight at one point the light came on it flickered of and on for a minute then it stopped. It did it when the car wasn't hot so I was thinking the level was low. So it needed collant but not that bad. It would do it like once a week every 3 weeks. Today when it came on the light stayed on for a mininte then turned off . When I put fulid in it the fluid wasn't low at all maybe 3 inches from the cap. So wht do you all think is wrong with my deville. Its a 86 deville 4.1L

Cooling fan control in the 80s vehicles had problems. There is a 'glitch' in the BCM that illuminates the telltale. It is not a problem and short of replacing the BCM you can: check every Ground connection for being tight/clean. You can go into parameters and see the temp of the cooling system. Did you get a Factory Service Manual?
3" low? In the radiator? That's not right. There should be about one-inch of coolant in the recovery tank with a cold engine. Using the required sealant tabs??

The radiator should be filled right to the cap, and as Dave said, there should be an inch or two in the tank. The tank should go dry first if you are using coolant. If it is not, then the cap is not working properly, but that would be the least of your problems.

Thanks for the replies I have the service manual . So where is the ground for this telelight. I haven't had any other lights come on and off like that in a while . Last time it was a dying alternator :(. On how full it was I make sure I fill it to like a half of inch from the cap opening. I remeber one time it cameon it flivkered for like 5 secs. then came on for like a 20 secs then turned off the car was cold when I started it and had made a 5 mile commute and that's nt round trip so I rushed to autozone got some anti freeze and . I kno ur not supppose to open the radiator cap I opened it first let the steam out then I opened it completely and the collant was still visable and the engine was not that hot to where you couldn't touch it. then. One occansion the light stayed on for like two minute and I could hear the fans running while the car is on is that normal.

Using the required sealant tabs...Yes?...No? Read the section on accessing Parameters and you can punch-in P.0.4. Temp reads in Celsius. 100dgC=212dgF or you can convert C to F: 'X' dgC x 9 divided by 5+36=dgF

The CTS sensor is in the lower-housing of the t-stat outlet. It has a 2-wire electrical connection. Your posts contain nothing about what codes are displayed.....have you checked for codes? A failed CTS should/will set a E14 or E15 code....
