2017 Premium Luxury with the $600 upgraded rim option. I just had two rims replaced under warranty for the clear coat flaking off. My car is now a year old and there was no curb damage done to the rims and I hand wash them with a wet microfiber towel with some spray wax to remove road and brake dust. Dealer asked if I take the car to the car wash. I said, don't most Cadillac owners? He then told me that the car wash was to blame, because car washes use acid when they clean the rims. I asked him if they tell all of their customers not to take their car to the car wash, because their rims might get damaged? It seemed to me that the car wash was not the reason the clear coat was flaking off the rims after a year. You could tell it was not acid etching the rims, which I have seen after years of chemical cleaner use, but the clear coat was flaking off in fingernail size pieces on the spokes of the rims. He warrantied the rims, but did not seem happy to do so. Now, I just noticed that this is starting on a third rim too. Anyone else with the upgraded rims notice this? Seems to me to be poor quality from the factory.

They don't use "acid" but they DO use some pretty powerful detergents in those wheel power washers and spray rollers.

You might want to contact your local Mobile Wheel Repair franchise and ask a few questions - a dealership will ALWAYS try to pawn the problem off on someone else. hell, it's a Cadillac. It's perfect, right ? (Didn't happen on MY watch ......!)

Whether we like it or not, "Cadillac" is no longer a niche luxury brand. It's a mass-produced automobile just like most others on earth. The more you make and the faster you make 'em, the more problems you have.

The wheel supplier/contractor for your car this year may well be the Northern South Dakota Wheel And Skunk Trap Works. Who knows if the last batch of clearcoat from Mexico was no good?

I have the same 20'' wheels as HGK2 and Desualt (Other post). They are stamped inside ''Made in China'' so not USA quality for sure. I have a 18'' wheels set from a Luxury model with snow tires for winter to prevent peeling from salt and sand and I prefer smaller tires for winter drive. I never go in automatic car wash and both sets still looking like new after 9 months.

My rims had better not start peeling!
Clear coating on rims that are peeling off have been an issue over the years with many makes and models... it certainly isn't something that is unique to just Cadillac or GM. Peeling can appear when one hits curbs or stones hit or bounce off the rims. Also peeling can be effected by salt, especially up in the colder climates/ states that tend to use a lot of salt on their roads. The salt can corrode/ accelerate any peeling of the clear coat on aluminum wheels.

I finally took an appointment for next week to get my 4 wheels redone, Cadillac will wave all associated cost toward a new coating done on the wheels, i'm hoping for a durable solution this time, the OEM finish has not proven durable at all that is why I don't mind its will be a sub doing the job this time, time will tell.

Maybe it would be a good idea to join the other tread I started a while ago about this subject with this one, just saying.

Yes, poor quality rims and did not get any compensation on my 3 rims with the corrosion. I have a 2013 Cadillac XTS WITH ONLY 44,500 miles and not happy with how it makes my car look.
After 10 years of ownership, perhaps you should look into refinishing your rims if you don't like the looks. Unless you bought a perpetual warranty plan.
