I also have a terrible popping noise described by the technician here to sound like this below on my 02 Escalade. Mine only does it when I travel over 55 mph for like 40 miles. When I go to turn the cadillac sharp when going slow it popps like it is stuck in 4 wheel drive and the cv joints are popping. I have replaced the cv joints and axles on both sides of car but it continues to do it. I then read it could be this "Viscous Clutch" in the front differential. I also read it could be my body mounts need to be upgraded to a larger size. Once the caddy cools down the popping stops. I have found the faster I drive the quicker it happens when turning sharp at say 2-3mph going through a parking lot. I also have changed the 90 weight in differential and added lucas gear oil hoping it would help. Could someone help me out that knows??
Thanks,
Ray

D1ngo,
You probably have it fixed by now, but that is a condition exclusive to '02 on the Escalades. Feels like you're locked in 4-whl drive on pavement causing serious binding and hopping because it is locked. T-case.

Re: Clunking noise while turning

a little late, but my 02 Lade did the same exact thing. Turned out it was the front differential, the Viscous Clutch to be exact. I think its in the transfer case. And of course the part is on national backorder
