I have always preferred to use the auto setting for climate on any vehicle that has this feature as much as possible. Unless there's excessive fog on the windshield, I have used the auto setting. With my 2012 SRX Luxury I am finding that the auto setting does not behave as I would expect it to. More specifically, I do not find the direction of air flow to be as I might expect. When it's moderately cold outside, or warm, the blowers sound like they're on high speed, but little air seems to come from the dash registers. I have the auto temp set at 75 degrees and yet I'm not feeling very warm. I changed to direction of airflow to dash and feet or defroster dash and feet, and what a difference that made. The fan speed was actually too high, and I was feeling more than comfortable in no time. I just can't understand why I should have to manually adjust the system to get air to blow from the dash vents. Shouldn't auto often mean that you can just set a temperature? What am I missing here?

I don't know what to tell ya. My Auto works awesome, and I notice it prioritizes the defroster and feet before moving around to achieve cabin temperature.

I agree. The climate control does not seem to work in auto mode. Sometimes I feel too warm and sometimes too cold at the same indicated temperature. This is unlike the auto mode in my 2009 CTS which works beautifully.

I find that when I turn in on and the car is cold, cold air blows rapidly out of the defrosters. In previous vehicles, the fan didn't blow until the engine temp rose a little.

With mine the A/C indicator light is always on in Auto. Even when it is -20 out, the light never goes off. Anyone else notice this? I know that the A/C will come on to defog, but the light never turns off.

If I turn it off by pushing the A/C switch, it kicks out of Auto.

My A/C light stays on full time in auto. I have noticed this was also the case in my previous vehicle with auto climate control as well. I don't think the A/C runs all the time, but comes on as needed to defog. If you turn it off, you come out of auto mode.

You are either in Auto mode or you aren't. Pressing any button seems to cancel it. It's an all or nothing deal.

Another annoying quirk of the HVAC in my 2011 Lux was found on a very cold day with back seat passengers. They complained about having no heat coming out of the little console vent. I learned that the only time that heated air is directed to the back vent is when the air is set to the dash vents in the front. So When I adjusted the control to the the dash vents the back seat passengers get a little heat but, now the driver and front passenger are getting cold feet. This is not the standard of comfort that I had come to expect from my previous Cadillacs.

You can direct the air equally between the dash vents and floor. I prefer dash vents, defrosters, and floor. As I stated at the start of this thread, I expected more from the auto climate control in this vehicle. It seems that I will have to use manual adjustments to be comfortable, and that's counter intuitive. I don't plan on going in for service anytime soon, so I will wait to see if there's something that can be done with respect to the auto mode. Not only do I not get airflow from the dash vents on auto, but the fan speed goes right to high with cold air blowing out at first (on auto). The good news is that when using manual mode, the system seems to work well in creating a comfortable cabin temperature.

I agree completely that the heating system leaves MUCH to be desired. On auto, there is no heat flowing to freezing rear seat passenger. And on manual mode we could only get a weak flow of warm air - adjusting the fan speed to deafening level didn't seem to help either. For a high end car, this is not acceptable.

The tri-zone auto climate control in my SRX seems to do quite amazing at keeping the front and rear passengers warm. And it does well at keeping the front window defrosted until you hit highway speeds when the temperature gets around -15*C, then I need to manually control to the windshield.

This is interesting.. My folks just got a 2012 with the Lux pkg in October past. My father has had nothing but complaints about how "unpolished" this vehicle is for being a Cadillac. This issue is just the latest. The CC howls like a banshee and blows in auto. Set at 79 you freeze and have to turn up the radio. Then there's the excessive ventilated cold air that seems to come in from everywhere; the console, the foot wells and of course the door handles.
Anybody know of a coming bulletin or issue being investigated?

There is a configuration option for controlling how fast the fan speed runs in Auto mode at normal operating temps. I tried to find it in the online manual for the 2012 model but couldn't. Seems like the manual is losing info instead of gaining more.

Well I've figured out how best to get a comfortable cabin temp in the winter and now am anxious to see how the A/C responds. I have all but given up on using the AUTO mode and have gone to manual operation. It seems that this is the only way to any air from the dash vents! I still wonder if this is the proper operation, but can't seem to get a reading from anyone here. Again, during cold outside temps where heat is called for, the auto mode results in heat coming from the defrosters and floor vents. The fan can be heard at a relatively high speed if needed, but air from the dash vents is virtually nonexistent. I have had several cars with auto climate control, dating back to my 1988 Mercury Cougar. All worked fairly well in the auto mode most of the time. The only time I would use manual at all, was during periods where there was snow and ice on the windshield. Other than that, I chose the auto set it and forget mode. Can anyone comment on how the climate control is supposed to function on auto--beyond what's already been previously stated here?
