If you have your sticker still it's on there. I have a 14, I believe I have the Japanese Tranny - before GM replaced it with their own. It also should be in your VIN is what I think he means by RPO code.

If I'm not mistaken... any 2016-2019 CTS with an 8 speed could be affected. In turn, I believe the RPO code (located in the right forward "hump" area of the trunk, under the carpet) for the affected gearbox will be M5N. Incidentally, this excludes *all* VSports, which came with the Aisin 8 speed, but the 3rd Gen CTS-V (RPO code M5U) could also have the problem.

I have the same transmission in my 2016 C7, the 8L90 (difference being the TC) from what I understand. The issue is tied to the TC on these transmissions. They have been replacing the TC's to newer versions on the Corvettes and trucks with the 8L90's and most recently doing a "triple flush" and replacing the fluid to a new synthetic version. Supposedly the old fluid was prone to absorbing moisture thus causing the issues. I have had the typical issues with my 8L45 but they come and go but they were more of an issue early on. Now with 14.5k on the meter they happen alot less often. FWIW....

Interesting, maybe "everyone" should know but some don't. Thanks for your "help."
it's your call to make, but you'd greatly increase your chances of getting help in the future if you lose the attitude. Everyone should know, but some don't, and thus the comment meant to encourage those who don't to look into it.

IMHO those reading this forum don't always "know" everything (in this case what RPO meant), which is why I asked the question. Although the reply defined the term (which I appreciated), I felt the response to me somewhat of a put down. My reply was not intended to convey anything but the point that not everybody knows everything.

why is PJL getting guff? He was kinda calling out the guy who said, a bit disdainfully " Regular Production Options. Everyone on these forums should know what they are and where to find them. "
I read THAT post as a bit stand offish... I have been on forums for 20 years... People come into them looking for info and are BARRAGED by seasoned posters and all their acronyms... And I guess when you get to be a cool kid, 'everyone' should know all the lingo, derp.
Right on PJL

interesting how different people interpret a written sentence differently. Not sure how his sentence conveyed "disdain" but whatever. You're free to interpret as you wish.

I have the same transmission problem as indicated in this thread. I have a 2016 CTS, AWD, performance model with paddle shift. The transmission shutters when under a light load. I've had the car back to my Cadillac dealer twice. On the first visit they changed the transmission fluid but a couple months the problem came back and I brought the car back to the dealer. The service manager said the problem is known to Cadillac and brought all the bulletins on his computer screen. He went on to say that when the problem first came to light they changed a few TC's which didn't solve the problem. Then Cadillac went to changing the fluid and is now on the third type of fluid change to solve the problem. I've had the first and third versions of this bulletin. I missed the second one. It will be helpful for those with this problem to know the latest bulletin is 18-NA-355. I hope someone can let us know how the class action comes works out.

Last post from me on this: So as the recipient of the comment, to get this right I looked up the definition of "disdain" and then "contempt." Disdain means "the feeling that someone or something is unworthy of one's consideration or respect; contempt: the feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn." For the record, that's exactly how I felt reading the comment.

Dug this out of our Deville, Seville, Lounge, and Northstar Engines forums - a sticky thread that gives most of the acronyms used by GM/Cadillac. Handy thing to bookmark.

https://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-seville-cadillac-eldorado-forum/205754-acronyms.html

The RPO (Regular Production Option) sticker is usually under the spare tire cover but is also found on the flat area next to the spare tire storage bin.

Typical RPO sticker shown .......... to decipher it you either Google something like "20xx cadillac cts rpo codes list" or take out a $5 subscription to www.compnine.com - you get the full download build sheet for your car plus any 4 others that you want.
