I have a 1986 Cimarron. I have named it Sisyphus after the Greek titan that was condemned for all eternity to push a boulder up a hill, only to have it roll back down the other side. I gave it the name because it suits the car. Everytime something gets fixed, something else breaks. Finding parts and a mechanic willing to work on the car is getting more difficult by the month.
The seats are the most comfortable car seats I have ever been in. The handling is responsive, but slightly less power-assisted than newer cars. The engine is clearly fatigued - my mom's Elantra wagon gives it a good run for the money. I've been trying to figure out what to replace the 2.8L V6 with (J-body). The rumors are true - the car is essentially a Cavalier with leather and a digital instrument cluster. Based on that, I would think that a 3.1L V6 (from a later J-body) would fit. Does anyone know anything about this?
My reliable car is a 2003 Altima - the Caddy just wasn't reliable enough for me to keep my job, and use it as the primary vehicle. Overall, it's better than the Caddy, but mainly because everything works. The ABS brakes are nice, too
If I can't find the right parts for this car, then I will probably try to find a collector (good luck...) who will not strip it for parts or have it junked, and give me that in writing. It was my first car, and I have a soft spot for it.
Finally, somebody puts a Cimarron message in here!
