Holidays have lost all meaning to me. I spent last thanksgiving on the side of the road waiting for the japanese police to be done with us after some dumb kid ran out in the street and we hit him, he was fine though. And last x-mass i spent with a few friends getting drunk off two bottles of wine, i drank the two bottles myself, like friggin cool-aid. And i forgot my birthday cause i was at work lol. Oh and i worked new years...24 hours. Since iam here i dont get to go home and see my family so whats the point.
well lets not forget the reason for the season brother! if you have nothing great to do, celebrate the greatest birth of all! thats an order Marine.

Okay, this was written by my late Mother, Rebecca Lita Block.
January 26 1915 - 4th-of-July 1995. (80). It's Copywrited to me.

T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHANUKKAH ....
and all thru the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even our mouse
The Menorah was set in the window aglow,
and its beams cast out on the new fallen snow!
Though Sandy was sleeping :)nono: ), I'm willing to bet,
that he is dreaming of the presents he'll get :)yup: ),
A new bike, model cars, sports car, a Jeep,
a new watch, some golf clubs some clothes, nuttin cheap!
The goodies 'n gadgets this holiday brings,
are awaited each year by Jewish offsprings...
I was lying in bed, almost asleep,
when the screeching of brakes brought me to my feets!
I peeked out the window as sly as one can,
and right then I saw him..." THE CHANUKKAH MAN " !!:)
now, the Chanukah Man is known to both girls and boys,
as the one who's responsible for the Caddies & the Toys ! ;)
He travels all over with stuff in his sack,
but instead of a sled, he drives a new Cadillac !
He got out of his Caddy, still beaming with pride,
from the bargains he'd gotten on New York's Lower East Side.
There were games, toys and clothes, a frisky new puppy and even a bunny,
and of course, best of all, the Chanukkah MONEY!
He glanced at his car, as he turned on his heels,
and smugly admired his chrome plated wheels.
But, ye must be aware that into a SACK, he cannot get,
MY NEW CADILLAC! He caught me at the window and said,
"So what the hey...I'll just leave in your big driveway" :bouncy:  :woohoo:
He picked up his sack, a converted golf bag,
which he threw on his shoulder, with a grunt & a drag,
marching into the house, he emptied his goods, so
he could refill the sack, with his irons & woods.
Again I could see the pride on his face, as he checked all
the goods, and put them in place.
After munching the chopped liver crackers, and a sip from our bar,
he returned to his car, for he knew that tomorrow he'd have to drive far.
With his Chanukkah chores now outtathe way,
he could head for Maimi, for some warm sun & play.
...as he started his car, I called out "SHALOM" - have a safe trip,
and hurry back home.
and as he drove off, these words came to ear,
"it's no big deal, I go every year" ~
... and I heard him exclaim as he raced outta sight,
Happy Chanukkah to all and to all a
GOOD NIGHT!

Sandy that was great! had me laughing out loud!
I think i will go to church this year...if iam not working that is.
What lead me to read this post, was the song that it placed in my head for the last two days. Don't know who sung it, or wear I heard it, but I want to find it on CD!!

It's a bluegrass/hillbilly song that goes;

"Christmas time is coming,
Christmas time is coming,
Christmas time is coming,
And we don't have very long..."

I've had a hillbilly singing in my head for two days, and I don't know if I should score Kev a negative or positive for doing that to me? ;)
Holidays are what we make of them. It can be really tough when you are away from home and family. Especially when you are around a bunch of post pubescent teenagers with little moral accountability and more testosterone than common sense. That kind of peer pressure tends to lead to excessive consumption of adult beverages and double, triple, quadruple dog dares to feats of stupidity.

It’s tough to find people who want to maintain family traditions in those circumstances.

I recommend writing to older family members in times such as this. You might be surprised how much they would appreciate a nice hand written card or letter. Ask grandparents or great aunts and uncles how they got through times away from family.

I cant afford to buy you presents everyday! the above statement is true, when you wake up do you say "Good morning Lord" or "Good Lord its morning"?

thats all you can take it, just one day at a time. keep the Lord on your mind and PRAY ALWAYS!!! i find myself just sitting down sometimes praying, i dont know but i always get a peace and a humbleness from it and makes my day go by alot faster. sometimes its not even prayer, i am just talking to God, He's a good listener and sometimes answers a prayer even before i pray it!
My Mom was small 5 foor 1 inch. She and others were stuffed into garbage cans, with holes punched in the bottom and loaded onto a garbage trunk that carried them past check points & out of Germany. That's how she got out. Larger children were left behind to be gassed. When she finally got out of Mexico & into America (New Mexico) she'd beg for food, or go into garbage cans to find food. When she got a job as a maid, those people fed her.

I don't know the accepted Jewish outlook regarding the Messiah - like I said I am not real religious, just a little.

Regarding Greandparents. I had none. They were gassed in Germany, all but one, that was shot trying to escape. I have no idea, nor feelings of what culture it is and/or related feeling are for grandparents. Void. Blank. Empty.

My paternal grandfather was KIA while returning to England. His grave is the English channel. His coffin his P51B.

Does the Jewish religion have a messiah like Jesus to the Christians?
No, fast66. We are waiting. My personal "messiah" is found within my own heart. To treat each person as though they were my own personal savior, to be be kind, friendly and funny, even when the "style" is not retured to me, and to not speakth poorly of one person to another, and to follow the ten commandments, which I do. To be the arm that reachs to to someone in need, or just needing a friend, a sincere friend. That's me. I am not a "Jock" nor a tough guy. I am kinda quiet, but usually funny.
well i got 10 months in Japan then 2 more years till iam out of the corps, i cant wait!
