Nevermind. He'll just bring me another one. The lady must have had an emergency. :histeric:
You guys never heard "T'was the night before Chanukkah" ?
Have I got a surprise for you ! But, I have to go find it....
{Needle in a haystack syndrome}
Okay, this was written by my late Mother, Rebecca Lita Block.
January 26 1915 - 4th-of-July 1995. (80). It's Copywrited to me.
**************************************************
T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHANUKKAH ....
and all thru the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even our mouse
The Menorah was set in the window aglow,
and its beams cast out on the new fallen snow!
Though Sandy was sleeping :)nono: ), I'm willing to bet,
that he is dreaming of the presents he'll get :)yup: ),
A new bike, model cars, sports car, a Jeep,
a new watch, some golf clubs some clothes, nuttin cheap!
The goodies 'n gadgets this holiday brings,
are awaited each year by Jewish offsprings...
I was lying in bed, almost asleep,
when the screeching of brakes brought me to my feets!
I peeked out the window as sly as one can,
and right then I saw him..." THE CHANUKKAH MAN " !!:)
now, the Chanukah Man is known to both girls and boys,
as the one who's responsible for the Caddies & the Toys ! ;)
He travels all over with stuff in his sack,
but instead of a sled, he drives a new Cadillac !
He got out of his Caddy, still beaming with pride,
from the bargains he'd gotten on New York's Lower East Side.
There were games, toys and clothes, a frisky new puppy and even a bunny,
and of course, best of all, the Chanukkah MONEY!
He glanced at his car, as he turned on his heels,
and smugly admired his chrome plated wheels.
But, ye must be aware that into a SACK, he cannot get,
MY NEW CADILLAC! He caught me at the window and said,
"So what the hey...I'll just leave in your big driveway" :bouncy:  :woohoo:
He picked up his sack, a converted golf bag,
which he threw on his shoulder, with a grunt & a drag,
marching into the house, he emptied his goods, so
he could refill the sack, with his irons & woods.
Again I could see the pride on his face, as he checked all
the goods, and put them in place.
After munching the chopped liver crackers, and a sip from our bar,
he returned to his car, for he knew that tomorrow he'd have to drive far.
With his Chanukkah chores now outtathe way,
he could head for Maimi, for some warm sun & play.
...as he started his car, I called out "SHALOM" - have a safe trip,
and hurry back home.
and as he drove off, these words came to ear,
"it's no big deal, I go every year" ~
... and I heard him exclaim as he raced outta sight,
Happy Chanukkah to all and to all a
GOOD NIGHT!

The payoff nobody would ever expect, was my Mom was a native New Mexican (from the state of NEW Mexico!) Jewish Population at THAT time was 2O per the state ! But you see, she was smuggled into the country of Mexico as a 14 y.o. after fleeing Nazi Germany and certain death. Once in Mexico (as is today) it was easy to get into the USA, and become a citizen and be safe. Mom was typically dark skinned dark hair and could make herslef look like a Mexican 14-15 y.o. She learned to speak fluent Spanish, and ate crumbs for food. She became a citizen, obtained a public school education at night school while working as a maid. Later attended college, graduated, paid back the loans, attended college, graduated college, worked waiting tables, paid back the college loans, attended & graduated Law Scool, passed the bar exam, became an attorney. Invested in real estate, and made alot of money, and would never buy one of the cars the children of her tormenters were / are making. Always an Imperial. She had plastic surgery to remove the tatoo'd numbers from her arm, but could never erase them from her heart & mind. It was indeed a looong 80 years....

Indeed, just as your reputation says: you have much to be proud of. What a great story of strong will and determination.:)
I would love to have met your mother Sandy. She sounds like a very brave and determined woman. My Grandmother was fortunate to be born in NYC, she was also very strong and determined (though her life was not threatened as was your mother's). She had to be during the time she grew up. She was raised in the Great Depression, raised her family during WWII, was very frugal and wise with the money she (and my Grandfather) made. She was not well educated but that didn't stop her from buying, running and selling various businesses. She ended up with three specialty dress shops in the SF Bay area.

I learned a lot from my Grandparents. My heritage from them is rich. I miss them now. I would love the opportunity to talk to them about their business experience and ask their advise for my own. When things are difficult for me I think back on the stories that Grandma told me, how she made it through WWII while my Grandfather was in the Navy. Very inspirational.

I will go to them, but they will not return to me.

Wow, you too have some very good stories about parents/grandparents. I haven't heard many stories about my grandparents. My grandfather had his own business from what I heard. But that's all I really now. Sometimes I feel, kind of disconnected from my family because we don't have a close family. I think that's why my friendships are so meaningful to me.

Are your Grandparents still around Addy? If so, I encourage you to see them as often as you can. Talk to your family members about your heritage. Take advantige of the time you have with loved ones while you can because when they are no longer here the opportunities are lost and many special stories and memories are often lost with them. I have a number of relatives that have had exceptional experiences in their lives. A couple of Uncles even made it into a book from the Pacific North West.

yes Jesus was a Jew but the Jews didnt accept Him as the Messiah... reason they dont celebrate Christmas...
Does the Jewish religion have a messiah like Jesus to the Christians?

No they're not. My grandpa died in 1979(2 yrs before my birth) and grandma died 20 years later in 1999. My grandma, I got to see about 1 or 2 times per year but, my family is a closed book family. My mom's parents are still alive but I haven't seen them in 10 years. I'm trying to get to Louisiana by next year to see them. I hate that the only time I get to see family is when someone dies or is deathly ill.

Yes, but they're still waiting. As far as I know it's not in the Judaic holy book, The Torah, it's in the other writings. For Christians, the Torah means the first 5 books of the Old Testament. The other Judaic writings are, I believe, called the "Tanakh", which is much of the rest of the Old Testament, and that's where the Messiah part comes from.

The Messiah prophecies, I think, are in the book(s) of Isaiah, where it talks about a "deliverer". Christians point to this as a prophecy of Jesus, who they say (and said) was the fulfillment of it as the Messiah.

A lot of "reformed" (that is, non-orthodox) Judaists don't take it literally, though.
There are Messianic references and prophecies in the Torah if you know where to look.

I hope you get the chance to go. Talk to them as much as you can. You might start by sending them cards or letters. They might really appreciate the old school mail approach. Tell them about yourself and your wife and kids (if you have them). Ask them about their lives, how they are doing now, what was it like for them when they were your age.

You have much to gain if they open up to you, little to loose if they don't.
Holidays have lost all meaning to me. I spent last thanksgiving on the side of the road waiting for the japanese police to be done with us after some dumb kid ran out in the street and we hit him, he was fine though. And last x-mass i spent with a few friends getting drunk off two bottles of wine, i drank the two bottles myself, like friggin cool-aid. And i forgot my birthday cause i was at work lol. Oh and i worked new years...24 hours. Since iam here i dont get to go home and see my family so whats the point.

Ralph's post kinda hit the nail but i am not 100% about all he said, the man to ask is Sandy, he knows a little more than we do. are you looking into a certain religion or something? the prophecies fulfilled, according to the christian faith in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New, are on a link Addison posted on page 4 i think. it has 50 of the many prophecies fulfilled by Jesus. John the beloved said that there was no possible way they could write down all the prophecies Jesus filled, so that is why not all of them are on there.

What a great post. Too bad I used my points for tonight. I'd give them all right now.
