So then, when did it change for you Sandy, I mean when did the excitement change from anticipating what you would get to seeing the reaction of the kiddies opening the gifts you got them?

When I was a kid all I thought about was what I might get as a gift. That changed when I got married and had kids of my own, I was more excited to see the reaction of the kids open thier gifts than what I might get.

I'm assuming that most people feel similar. :duck:

It's always fun to save the best for last, give the kid the idea that the special gift they asked for just wasn't gonna make it that year then pull it out last and see thier reaction.

Kinda like the movie "A Christmas Story" where Darren McGavin points out that last gift behind the desk, the BB gun that his kid shoots his eye out with..

last year was the first year i got to see my neice open up her presents was the greatest thing. now this year i get to see two of them open up their gifts. i could watch them open gifts all day and not worry about the ones i got. but i guess my parents get the same joy of watching me open mine... well did anyway... so i guess i can keep enjoying it.

hey Sandy, this might seem forward and i dont mean it to be but you celebrate Christmas?

I remember my 5th Christmas, we went to Grandmas’ and all the cousins were there plus a few extra foster kids that we brought. The living room was knee high in presents to me, it was great! That year the James Bond 007 radio spy gun was popular. The one that looked like a portable radio, push a button and a gun barrel, pistol grip etc. pops out.

My folks had little money and couldn’t afford it (plus it was plastic and probably would have been broken before New Years) so they bought me a great wooden rifle that shot little plastic bullets (spring loaded).

Well, I opened the rifle and was obviously disappointed (even though it was a much better toy) and when I saw my 4 year old cousin open up his 007 radio gun all I could think of was “HE’S GOT MY GUN! WHAHHH!!!”

What an ungrateful little brat I was!

Ohhhhh man that's some good times. I'm kinda down because I never know what I want anymore and I'm starting to think I'm......outgrowing Christmas! :( I remember the good ol' days when there was the toy of the year that I had to have. Now everyone just takes pictures around me because, "I dress funny."

No, you don't have to make apologies for asking me.....

No, I do noit celebrate Christmas. We celebrate Chanukah - which also happens to be in Decmeber (along with MY birthday!) But, while we dot not celebrate your holiday,I do enjoy the good fellowship, the decorations, the singing and SOME of the T.V. shows.

I have been (physically) to Midnight Mass, which is so so beautiful. I usually do watch the televised Midnight Mass on TV from St. Peter'sVatican, I believe it is.....

I enjoyed Midnight Mass. I don't really like the commercialization of Christmas, but if not for THAT commercialazation, the participation would decline, so, it's a necessary "evil" of sort.

I have alot of friends who are Christians and I do sent out Christmas cards. I sign them "Remember to keep Christ in CHRISTmas"

We celebrate Chanukkah by lighting 8 candles, one a night and exchange little token "gifts" each night. Nothing extravgant. Socks, After Shave, Perfume, one time use camera, $20.00 gift card at Victoria's Secret, 16 little gifts between my wife & I, and 8 for Matt. (Son). All of it under $200.00. But, this year I'd really like a Bentley Continential T
I illuminate the candles on the Menorah - one a night, and say the prayer in Hebrew.
My # 1 favorite joke is this one:

Teacher asks little Michael in 6th grade to explain any Jewish Holy-day he'd like!
Mikiee says: "I can explain them all" !!

"They tried to kill us"
" WE WON "
"Lets Eat" !!

So, after lighting the Menorah, each night... WE EAT (God...do we) OINK OINK

I agree in the fact that Christmas is becoming too comercialised, although i am looking forward to gettting my MP3 player this year :halo:

It is the same for me, we usually end up having a huge family dinner at my house, one year we dined 21 people.

Alas, there will be one person amiss this year, my dear old Grandmother, Great Granny to the kids.

My older son has already been given his Christmas present this year. My 2004 BMW 545i Touring. It will be signed over to him just before Christmas. The other two are not jealous of this, because they knows that if they stay on track in University they will get such presents as this in the future.

I, personally switched my excitement for my kids when my older son had his first Christmas, and there was an almighty enourmous stack of presents under the tree, on the sofas, on the floor, in his stocking and every where between!

This year i will be dealing with one grown up son, and two teenagers. As i have been doing for a few years now. What have i let myself in for?

As for other religions, we get Christmas cards from our muslim friends, our Jewish friends (which there are alot of in my wife's prfession), and of course all of our christian friends.

AS for Chanukah Sandy, i hope you get that Bentley!

Christmas is a depressing time for many. Whoa you just brought back a flood of memories with that one. When I was a kid I got to play "Santa" and handed out all the presents from under the tree to family members. Mmmmm pullstring GI Joe doll was my favorite...

Yeah, that's pretty much it. One of the many old stereotypes.

All in good fun here. :)
