So, I need some help.

I hear a chime sometimes in the car, but cannot figure out why it appears. Has anyone noticed noticed he same?

No, it is not the seat belt warning.

The best description, but this is really a guess from me, is some kind of speed warning - e.g. a chime when you exceed the speed limit by a certain amount. But, I don't remember any options that control this. I have the CUE system, but not the driver awareness and other packages that may have an option like this.

Or is it perhaps the Onstar system uplinking? Or a service warning?

So far, I know it happens, but do not understand why or how it happens.

Does anyone else have an idea?

I don't think you can set a warning for when you exceed the speed limit... but you can set a warning for when you exceed a specific speed. If you go to your settings page on the DIC... you can enable the "page" or "view" to do this (if it's not already enabled). I can't remember what it's called... just look for something along the lines of speed warning. Then once you have it enabled... scroll to that page on one of the side views in the DIC and set the limit to a higher number... or turn it off by clicking and holding the SEL button ( I think).

I'm not sure if this is it, but it's worth a check!

Did the seat vibrate? I presume not but that could be a different set of possibilities.

Possibility 1:
"Speed Warning"
But if you do not know that you have this, then you likely have not set this.
Not all DIC options are enabled. You might first have to enable that setting to be displayed (see 5-24 of the manual), then once it is displayed in a DIC window you can set the speed warning up or down. It is just like "if I go over 100, chime to let me know" - a DIC message will show also.

Possibility 2:
"Service Power Steering"
This would cause the chime and also have an error message in the DIC. If it happens again, be sure to check the DIC. This seems likely to me to be the cause.

(Were you in the process of stopping or just starting away? Pulling out of a parallel parking spot or pulling away around a corner from a stop seems to be related to many cases of the power steering problem people have reported.)

Other possibilites include (apart from the seat belts, door open, etc.) Stabilitrak or ABS failures but I have not seen anyone post a report on those.

If you have your ATS in for service, I suspect there will be an error code logged if the Service Power Steering error occured so they will check that.

Thanks all, I will have the dealer check the error codes when I bring it in for service.

So far, nothing seems to relate to my observations - they happen when driving on expressway, freeway, etc.

I did see this error today, it also came with a chime, but I am not sure it covers the same issue (please don't mind the fingerprints):

The only time I hear a chime without a message is a seatbelt notification. I've noticed I've set it off just leaning over and putting a bit of weight on the passenger seat. Do you have a laptop or anything in the seat that may be triggering the weight sensor from time to time?

When I put something on the passenger chair which is fairly light, e.g. a cell phone and a notebook, a camera, etc., the airbag light warning (not activated) light will light up, and sometimes even the seatbelt not fastened warning, I believe.

What happens during driving is that the car may go over a bump, or a crest, and the weight gets lighter, or the inverse and the weight increases. It is during these transitions that the light either comes on or goes off, and the chiming starts.

Spurious Lane Departure Warning? "LDW warnings may occur due to tar marks, shadows, cracks in the road, or other road imperfections. This is normal system operation; the vehicle does not need service."

I think your hearing things! LOL! Thats what I told my wife when she told me the exact same thing as you. She said she has been hearing some kind of warning chime and there is no warning. This never happened before we had the CUE update. She said she will be driving along and hear the chime and the first she she looks for is some kind of warning and there is none. Here I thought she was crazy but maybe not or maybe both of you are losing your minds?

I've heard the chime too. It reminded me of a quieter seat belt chime. Not sure what caused it, as nothing came up on the screen. I have lane departure on vibrate, and have only heard the chime once.

Funny, I had this same exact "issue" and finally figured out the same cause. Every time the chime started I would look at my dash for an indicator light, when in fact the passenger seatbelt indicator light is overhead.

Just glad I figured this out before going into the dealer and giving the service guys a good laugh. :)
