09 ESV. 120k miles. Took on road trip. Everything was fine, pretty much all interstate travel. 70 mph+ for the last hour of the trip. As I exited and the truck came to a stop on the ramp, it seemed to give a slight shudder as it came to a complete stop. Check engine light came on,but no message came up on the display or it didn't even give a warning chime. I just looked up and it was on. I continued on my trip and the truck drove fine through city traffic. Engine light stayed on, even after turning off ignition and restarting multiple times. I contacted onstar and the diagnostics person said it was reading a transmission malfunction that set the light off and all other systems were normal. After running the truck in the city for a couple more short trips, the light just went away. I then made the exact same interstate trip back home this evening with no issues and no light coming on. Nothing out of ordinary with any other system. My question is, should I take this to the dealer to have them look at it right away, or do these warning lights come on and then go off with nothing truly being wrong? I feel like I've seen something similar to this in another post awhile back, but it was with the service stabilitrack and it was after towing something long distances. I couldn't find that post anywhere so I started this thread. Thanks for any tips on diagnosis of the problem.

Go to an autózone or advanced auto parts or oreileys any mechanic store and tell them your check engine light came on and that you want them to check it out they will hook up a scanner to see exactly what's wrong with it and tell you what you can do honestly the dealer ships are thieves everything's Cadillac price and all they want is money you might have a simple small problem in the trans and they could fix it and tell you the rebuilt it or something why do you think this forum exist because everyone try's to help eachother out an to go to the dealership

From your brief description of the off ramp event, it sounds like the lockup torque converter may have stuck in the lockup mode all the way to a stop. That is unusual but anything can happen with electronic/computer controls. A knowledgeable shop with trouble code may be able to confirm. It could easily be a freak event so if it doesn't occur again I'd keep driving.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I know nothing about cars and I'm learning a ton on this forum. I'm jealous of all the knowledge you all have. Thanks again. If anybody has other suggestions or recommendations, please keep them coming.
